The messy ones.

And still show up…

There is something so special…

about being in a room with the women who knew you before the business.

Before the titles.

Before the wins.

Before all of it.

They knew me when.

And they love me still.

I don't take moments like this lightly.

Because not everyone gets to have this.

Women who pour into you.

Who pray for you.

Who celebrate you like nobody else can.

That's what these two are to me.

My mother.

My sister.

People tell me all the time…

“I don't have a medical background.”

Let me stop you right there. 🖤

I'm not a nurse.

Never was a nurse or anything like that.

I don't have any medical background.

I was just a caregiver for 10 to 12 years.

And all I had was my experience from being a caregiver.

But that's all I needed.

Everything I learned from being a caregiver…

is exactly what I used in my agency to scale it.

And I scaled it to 3.5 million in 2 years.

You do not have to be a nurse.

You do not even have to hire a nurse to get started.

Get certified under what you qualify for…

so that you can get this thing going. 🖤

A provider said something to me recently that really stuck with me.

She said she's scared to grow…

because of all the compliance that comes with it.

And I thought about it.

A compliance system that can hold 10 clients can hold 20.

A compliance system that can hold 20 can hold 50.

A compliance system that can hold 50 can hold 100.

That is what systems do.

They scale.

So if growth feels scary…

maybe compliance isn't the thing you're afraid of.

Maybe you're afraid of what growth will reveal.

Because growth doesn't create instability.

It exposes it.

And small isn't safe.

Small just hides problems longer. 🖤

If adding clients feels dangerous…

if adding staff feels overwhelming…

if expansion feels risky…

what you are really saying is…

“I do not trust the foundation underneath what I've already built.”

And honestly…

that's fair.

Because growth doesn't create instability.

It exposes it.

The same way audits expose it.

The same way pressure exposes it.

The same way success exposes it.

They choose small because small feels safe.

But small isn't safe.

Small just hides problems longer.

You can have a fragile business with five clients.

You can have a fragile business with 50 clients.

The issue is not the size.

The issue is the system.

Will you keep your business small enough…

to maintain the false appearance of safety?

Or will you build systems strong enough…

to create actual safety?

Because those are not the same thing.

One is avoidance.

The other is leadership. 🖤

I started my agency in my car.

At this point…

you need your compliance system to run automatically.

Like a machine.

Without you.

Because it's easy to go back when you're only talking about three clients.

You can backdate and save yourself right before audit.

But when you're getting up there in numbers of clients and staff…

you're getting staff coming in and out…

you need to have a system in place.

When you start talking about 200K plus…

you're talking about more clients.

More staff members.

More moving parts.

And you want to make sure you have a system in place…

so all this stays in line.

So you don't fall on the side of the road…

and get an audit…

and don't know what to do. 🖤

Blue water glowing.

And not a single email to answer in this moment.

This is what I call a non-negotiable.

Not a reward.

Not a treat.

A non-negotiable.

Because the same energy I pour into building…

the compliance systems…

the strategies…

the community…

the businesses…

has to be replenished somewhere.

And for me?

Sometimes it starts right here.

Feet in warm water.

Mind finally still.

Reminder to self…

and to you Builder…

you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Rest is not laziness.

Rest is strategy.

Having the manual alone is not enough.

Think about it like a fire escape plan.

You got the drawing on the wall.

But just because you have the drawing…

don't mean that everybody that's a part of the system know what to do.

Where do you go?

How long do you wait for everybody to gather up?

What's next?

You need to know each step that's a part of this process.

And the people involved in your agency need to know as well.

They need to know who is responsible for what.

Who do they go to if there's a compliance breach.

Who's your compliance officer.

And your compliance officer needs to know…

what do I do when somebody comes to me and reports a compliance breach.

How long do I have to report it to the state.

All of this needs to be outlined in your compliance system.

Having the policy is not enough.

You need to have how it will be walked out…

step by step…

for your agency. 🖤

What's your protocol when you get an audit notice?

Because if your process starts with…

“We need to get these files together ASAP.”

“We got to check all the documentation.”

“We'll have to stay late tonight.”

Houston we have a problem. 🖤

Because the audit didn't create the missing documentation.

The audit didn't create the missing signatures.

The audit didn't create the missing oversight.

The audit simply exposed what was already there.

That's why I tell providers all the time…

don't study your audit.

Study your audit response.

Because your response tells me everything I need to know.

Did you panic?

Did you scramble?

Did everybody suddenly become a compliance specialist overnight?

If so…

the audit is not the problem.

The system is. 🖤
