With the weather being as hot as it’s been lately, don’t be surprised if you start noticing a little more pest activity around your home.
A few things I always recommend this time of year:
• Try not to overwater your lawn or plants. Excess moisture can attract mosquitoes, roaches and other pests.
• Check around the yard for anything holding standing water — buckets, toys, flowerpots, etc.
• Keep bushes and plants trimmed away from the house when possible.
• Pick up leaves, cardboard, wood and other clutter sitting around the exterior of the home.
• Make sure trash cans are closed and pet food isn’t being left outside overnight.
• Check around doors and windows for small gaps where pests can get inside.
You’re never going to eliminate every bug outside — and you really don’t need to. The biggest thing is making your property less inviting so they’re less likely to become a problem inside your home.
