Not every order is about selling a product.

Sometimes it’s about preserving history.

Years ago, H**ptique was approached to help recreate an original 18th-century h**p sash cord used in the restoration of George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.

Working from preserved fragments, our team carefully analyzed the original cord’s twist, diameter, texture, and appearance to produce a historically accurate replica worthy of one of America’s most treasured landmarks.

For us, this project represented more than rope-making. It was an opportunity to contribute to the preservation of American heritage and demonstrate the enduring value of natural fibers that have stood the test of time.

From artisans and craftsmen to museums, designers, and manufacturers, natural fibers continue to play an important role in connecting the past with the future.

We are proud that H**ptique was able to play a small part in helping preserve a piece of history.

Since 1997, H**ptique has remained committed to sustainable natural fibers, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative applications for the next generation.

Threading History — How H**ptique Helped Restore George Washington’s Mount Vernon

A Story of Heritage & Craft

When Mount Vernon called H**ptique, this was never just another project.

The request was deeply personal: recreate the original h**p sash cord used in George Washington’s historic windows — exactly as it existed more than 250 years ago.

Peter Nyari, founder of H**ptique, understood immediately that this was about honoring history, not manufacturing a product.

Working side by side with traditional rope-making artisans in Hungary, Peter helped bring the project to life strand by strand. Together, they studied surviving fragments from Mount Vernon’s original windows, carefully matching the twist, diameter, texture, and historic Madder Red coloring of the original h**p cord.

There was no room for approximation. Every detail mattered.

Using traditional rope-making techniques and natural h**p fiber, the team recreated nearly 460 meters of historically accurate sash cord — handcrafted with the same spirit and precision that would have existed in the 18th century.

Today, those cords continue to hold open the windows of George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

For H**ptique, this project became more than craftsmanship. It became a bridge between American history, Hungarian artisan tradition, and the enduring legacy of natural h**p fiber.

Some threads do more than hold windows open.

They carry history forward.

Thank You, H+H Americas.

We are grateful to everyone who stopped by the H**ptique booth, shared conversations with us, explored our natural fiber collections, and supported our mission of bringing sustainable creativity back into the craft and hobby industry.

This year’s show reminded us that there is a growing movement toward authentic, eco-conscious, heritage-inspired materials — and we are honored to be part of that conversation.

From h**p and linen yarns to cords, twines, macramé supplies, and new product developments, it was a pleasure connecting with makers, designers, retailers, distributors, and industry friends from around the world.

Special thanks to the H+H Americas organizers, buyers, artists, educators, and everyone who helped make the event meaningful and inspiring.

If we did not get the chance to connect during the show, we would still love to hear from you.

Through June 1st, new wholesale accounts can place a first order starting at $200.
