BRIDGE ALERT
Both bridges are fully open.
Good news to report on this otherwise difficult day. The Bourne Bridge work has been completed ahead of schedule, and the Sagamore Bridge area work is taking place off to the side of the roadway with no impact to traffic. Both crossings remain wide open and fully operational for travelers.
A sincere thank you to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mass DOT, the contractors, and all those who worked diligently to complete the Bourne Bridge work safely and efficiently. Appreciation as well to our first responders and to the public for their patience throughout this necessary maintenance period.
As we move forward, it’s important to note that the Sagamore Bridge replacement project has officially begun and is fully funded. At the same time, the Bourne Bridge does not yet have funding in place for replacement, and efforts continue at every level to secure the resources needed for that critical project.
Until these long-term solutions are fully realized, ongoing maintenance remains essential to ensure both bridges remain safe, reliable, and fully functional for the millions of people who depend on them each year.
It’s never easy to do this kind of work in such a vital transportation corridor, but it is being done the right way—with safety, patience, and cooperation from the public.
We continue to look ahead to the day when both bridges will be replaced with modern infrastructure that will serve our region safely for the next hundred years and beyond.
