The emergency fund is a strategy, clutching idle money is not....

Cash reserves are not designed to win a performance contest. Their job is to create breathing room.

A reserve can help prevent an unexpected expense from becoming high-interest debt. It can provide time to make a thoughtful career decision. It can keep a short-term problem from forcing a long-term investment decision.

The right reserve target is personal. It may depend on income stability, household expenses, insurance coverage, upcoming commitments and how many people rely on that income.

Cash has a purpose in a financial plan. The goal is to know how much is enough and what the money is protecting and what the cost of it not actively working for you might be.

What is your reserve designed to protect? If that answer is unclear, let’s map it out together.

Three things for an employee to look at if your ESOP company is sold:

1️⃣ What does this mean for you financially? It’s important to be clear on the details – price per share, deal structure, and your voting rights are all important considerations.

2️⃣ How and when you’ll get paid – this varies, so it is important to be clear on the details about vesting, payout timing, and form of payment to expect.

3️⃣ Taxes and distribution options – for many employees, this may be the largest sum of money ever received, so it’s important to understand how it is taxed and how it fits in your overall financial plan.

Don’t go it alone – I can help you understand these considerations and more. Let’s connect.
