Stopped in Kansas City, KS for some legendary BBQ! We went with Slaps BBQ located in the downtown area. Slap's BBQ is one of the most popular Kansas City barbecue restaurants.
And I can see why! We arrived about 5 minutes after opening and it was a good thing we did, because by the time we walked out with our order the line was already out the door. 🙎‍♂️🙎‍♀️🙎🙍‍♂️🙍‍♀️
The smell was amazing! We went with the meat sampler plate - a little of everything- and the baked potato casserole, which is rich, creamy, and to die for, the slaw, chopped fine and leaning on the vinegary side which balances with the sweet BBQ sauce, and lastly, the hush puppies!
You know it's the real deal when they serve the BBQ with white bread.
The meats - brisket, pulled pork, smoked sausage, turkey, and my favorite, the burnt ends - were all smoked to perfection.
came through for their reputation of gooooooood BBQ.

Yep! Bologna sandwiches and ham & cheese sandwiches with chips. My dad would always say, you want a beer! 🤣 then grab a cold birch beer from the cooler. It was one of rare times we were allowed to drink a soda. It was a treat ❤ sweet memories ❤

Last night I stayed at the Shouse House in California, Missouri. A rustic living quarters on an Amish farm attached to a horse barn. The house was formerly an Amish tack shop. You are greeted by a whole pack of Great Pyrenees and a few of their smaller friends. It was storming when we arrived, so it appeared that the farm dogs had taken cover on the porch. My own dogs were excited to see so many of their own!

We traveled a good hour from I70 to reach the farm, going down gravel roads for half that ride. It's definitely isolated and peaceful. All the neighboring farms were also Amish. The community phone, used for emergencies, was located in the horse barn outside the door of our accommodations.

Horse and buggies traveled past the house, little ones with straw hats could be seen in the distance. The farm housed horses, dairy cows, which you are free to help milk, and goats.
The rooster could be heard waking the farm the next morning. Farm fresh eggs were available for breakfast.

Just a few pics of this one as guest are ask to refrain from taking pics. The landscape pics I took on the way out and the others snatched from airbnb, just to give you an idea of what it was like.

This morning we stopped at the Flame Diner. The hidden food gem of California, Mo. An old school diner with homemade comfort food and friendly service. The strawberry waffle was amazing. We took some homemade, fresh from the oven, blackberry cobbler for the road. ☕🩷
