Take a look underneath your water heater, washing machine, HVAC equipment, or other water-using appliances.

Do you see a pan underneath?

Depending on the appliance and installation, a drain or drip pan may be there to catch small amounts of water and, when properly connected to drainage, help direct that water away.

But here's the important part:

👉 Having a pan doesn't mean you can forget about leaks.

A pan can only do so much. Water may overflow it, a drain line can become clogged or disconnected, or a leak may occur somewhere the pan can't catch it.

That's why it's a good idea to periodically take a quick look around water-using appliances and equipment.
