Our Director of Business Retention, Expansion & Attraction, Phil Schlabach, along with Julie Szeltner and Keri Zipay from TeamNEO, recently visited Schaeffler Group's Wooster facility for a BizConnect visit. They were welcomed by Drew Hilty and Lisa Armstrong, who serves on WEDC's Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

BizConnect provides an opportunity to learn more about local businesses, discuss opportunities and challenges, and strengthen the partnerships that support continued growth in Wayne County.

Welcome to Wayne County, GOBA riders!

We’re excited to welcome participants of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure as they make their way across Ohio during the Route 250 ride, stopping in Wooster between June 23-25.

An estimated 700-800 riders, support crew, and visitors will have the opportunity to explore downtown Wooster, enjoy our local restaurants, visit the area's attractions, or discover the unique shops and experiences found throughout Wayne County.

We look forward to sharing our hospitality, supporting local businesses, and showcasing the vibrant communities that help make Wayne County such a special destination.

As businesses continue to compete for skilled talent, it's important to be aware of resources that can help strengthen recruitment efforts.

The JobsOhio Relocation Incentive provides eligible Ohio employers with financial support for attracting out-of-state STEM and technical talent to fill high-demand positions. The program is designed to help companies expand their workforce while supporting continued business growth across Ohio.

For employers looking to recruit specialized talent, this may be a valuable resource worth exploring.

So far, five Wayne County companies have submitted applications for the program. JORI is a retroactive program, so if you have already hired someone from out-of-state earlier this year you can still apply.

Housing availability plays an important role in supporting workforce growth and long-term economic success in Wayne County.

Since the completion of the county-wide housing assessment, communities, developers, and local partners have continued working together to expand housing opportunities across the county. From new residential developments to rental and senior housing projects, meaningful progress is taking shape.

While there is still work to be done, these investments are helping create opportunities for residents, support employers, and strengthen Wayne County for the future.

The Employment Resource Fund helps remove barriers that can stand in the way of work, training, and education by providing support for things like tools, certifications, transportation, work clothing, and other employment-related needs.

Through partnerships with local schools, nonprofits, and workforce organizations, the fund helps Wayne County residents gain the resources they need to find jobs, keep jobs, and pursue new opportunities.

Recently the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo toured Davey Nursery and tagged 27 trees to be planted in the landscape outside of the Primate Forest rainforest exhibit.

In addition, they were also able to repurpose 17 Bradford Pear Trees as animal food to the zoo, as it's now listed as an invasive tree species that can no longer be sold.

Davey Tree Nursery grows approximately 80 different tree species and continues to adapt to changing market trends and customer demand, while supporting the broader operations of The Davey Tree Expert Company.
