📍 Have you heard of what3words? It could help first responders find you faster in an emergency.

what3words is a free smartphone app that has divided the entire world into 10ft x 10ft squares and assigned each square a unique combination of three words. For example: “apple.tree.house.”

This is especially helpful when you are:
• On a trail or rural road
• At a large event or park
• Traveling and unsure of your exact location
• In areas without clear addresses
• Reporting crashes, medical emergencies, or fires in hard-to-find locations

At 911, we can use your what3words location to quickly pinpoint exactly where you are and relay that information directly to responders. This can save valuable time when every second matters.

✅ Download the free what3words app today on your Apple or Android device
✅ Learn how it works before an emergency happens
✅ Be prepared to share your 3-word location with 911 if needed

While calling 911, always try to provide the best location information possible, including addresses, landmarks, mile markers, or intersections. what3words is another tool that can help us get help to you faster.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and help us help you. 🚓🚑🚒

With Memorial day weekend right around the corner and many kids just finishing up with school summer is officially here! It’s time for pool season! With that being said we have some important information to share. The Yorktown Fire Department DOES NOT fill pools. We are sorry we don’t offer this, we can’t have our trucks out of service to fill pools and not be able to respond to emergencies. Please stay safe and which little ones at all times in the pool or any body of water. Also if you decide to go kayaking on the White River and experience an emergency, there have now been mile markers placed along side the river to help us find you in a quicker manner! Stay safe and stay hydrated this summer! Have a great summer everyone! ☀️
