279. LEANDRI LEACH: MOST FIRST-TIME VISITORS INVITED IN BNI FREE STATE 2025

Leandri Leach closed out 2025 having invited more first-time visitors than any other member in BNI Free State.

Visitors are how a chapter grows, and inviting them is work — the ask, the follow-up, the arrangement, the welcome on the day. Leandri did it more often than anyone, and BNI Octane doubled its chapter size in the same year. Those two facts are not a coincidence.

Leandri is from LAW - House of Attorneys, specialising in business law, conveyancing, bridging finance and related legal services. At BNI Octane she serves as Member Co-ordinator on the leadership team, and regularly hits 100% across BNI's performance metrics.

Bringing visitors into the room is generosity before it is ever growth. Leandri gave first, all year.

278. THE BNI FREE STATE CHARITY RAP SONG

Every year, the BNI Free State Annual Golf Day turns fairways into fundraising, and this year, the proceeds found their way to four incredible causes, and inspirational members of BNI. The cheques were awarded at the Regional Gala Awards Ceremony.

Chris Dednam, Executive Director and CHAMP* rapper, did not just hand over the cheques. He rapped them into the record books, with a little help from a StorySchmidt:
SPCA, CHOC, CREDO, ChildLine,
four causes, one heartbeat, and a golf day so fine.

Furry friends, from canine and feline to bovine,
rehomed forever by SPCA, that's the design.

Kids beating cancer, with the CHOC team by their side,
parents, loved ones, and the kids themselves, going the whole nine yards with pride.

Kids in need of love and support,
receive real love and love boxes, CREDO, such great sports!

Children and women, violated and at risk (say no!),
are supported from victim to victorious, by Team Childline, that's how they grow, yo!

BNI Free State, changing the way the world does business,

Story 276. LIESL KLEYNHANS: MOST REFERRALS GIVEN TO BNI MEMBERS 2025

Liesl closed out 2025 with the most referrals given to BNI members in the Free State region. She is a member of BNI Rectiora.

Referrals, with first-time visitors successfully invited, are the growth currency of BNI, and Liesl spent hers generously. Every referral passed was a member's business moved forward, a connection made, an opportunity handed on rather than held back.

Liesl represents Utility Smart, managing and supplying prepaid water and electricity meters. Their smart metering systems cover electricity, water and gas — prepaid and postpaid — built for accuracy and transparency, with real-time usage insights, instant token top-ups and one unified data platform for property managers and end-users.

Giving that consistently, over a full year, represents a healthy habit, practised weekly.

Story 275. THE HIGHEST EXPRESSION OF GIVERS GAIN: GIVING WITHOUT PROFIT IN MIND

Dr. Steve Renz, BNI's Global Director of Learning and Development, shared this story with Werner during his recent visit to South Africa, one carried from his own years as an Executive Director in the United States.

A member of the region's BNI community owned a pest control company. He was fulfilling a referral, given to him by a fellow member, when he was fatally injured on the job, struck by a live electrical wire while working beneath a house.

It is the kind of loss no network can undo. But what happened next is why this story is still being told.

Rival pest control companies, fellow BNI members from other chapters, businesses he would have been competing against on any other day, stepped in for his widow. They took over his contracts. They served his clients. They kept the business running, not for themselves, but for her, for close to a year, until she was in a position to sell the company. Every dollar of proceeds and revenue went straight to her, to support her family.

In the end, one of those very competitors bought the company outright.

As Steve put it, this is the highest expression of Givers Gain: you give without profit in mind, because the gaining is in the giving.

A testament to Givers Gain leadership, even in the hardest of circumstances.
