Deceased estate cleanouts involve far more than simply clearing a home. They require care, coordination and the right network of trusted professionals.

For this project, we collaborated with garage experts, second-hand furniture sellers and buyers, donation organisations, and tech specialists to responsibly sort, clear, and rehome items where possible.

A professional organiser’s guide to organising toys:��1: Get prepared
Get second-hand boxes for your local shop for your to put the donated items in. Get a black bag for broken toys. Buy some plastic drawer from your local Mambos. Clear a large surface for you to work on.

2: Get started
Tip the toys into a pile on the table. Sort "like toys" into drawer. Dividing into big categories helps. Ie cars, characters, block etc. As your sort, put donated toys in your second hand box and broken ones into the black bag

3: Get labeling
Either use pictures or words to lable the boxes to help your child or house help maintain the system. White sticky lables are great for either pictures or hand written lables

4: Get finished
But the black bags in the rubbish. Put the donated toys in your car to drop off, or phone and set up a time for collection.

5: Get Realigned
Show your child and house help what you have done, explaining the lables and your expectation to maintain the new system. Remember it takes 21 days to develop a new habit, so be diligent and encouraging while the habit is being developed
