Groot Phesantekraal Wines and Restaurant

Groot Phesantekraal Wines and Restaurant Groot Phesantekraal is managed by the Brink family as a Farm, award wining Wine Estate, & Restaurant By 1756, 40 000 vines had already been established.
(501)

In 1698 Governor Simon van der Stel Granted the farm Groot Phesantekraal to it’s first owner Captain Oloff Berg. In 1897 the Brink family acquired the farm. Although the farm produced grapes over the years it was only in 2005 when the first wine was released. The 930ha farm of which 60ha are under vine is situated on the north eastern side of Durbanville. Currently only 18tons are harvested for own use, with the remainder sold to other cellars. Grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. Being passionate about good wine made the decision for Andre and Ronelle to make their own wine come naturally. Building from strength to strength we are currently in the process of growing our boutique winery including constructing our own red wine maturation cellar and fully fledged wine cellar facilities. Andre and Ronelle Brink invite wine and food lovers to share in their love of good wine and food to experience Groot Phesantekraal and what it has to offer. Winemaker: Richard Schroeder
Head Chef: Gareth Goliath

OUR CURRENT DRINK OF CHOICE

It’s the perfect time to discover our latest wine cocktail creation: the Farmhouse Spritz. Available at our restaurant throughout September, it’s the fourth instalment in our wine cocktail series, created in collaboration with mixologist Julian Short, aka The Flavourist.

Fresh, vibrant and with a deliciously savoury twist, the Farmhouse Spritz brings together our Cap Classique Blanc de Blanc, limoncello, lemon syrup, olive brine and soda water. The result is wonderfully refreshing, with the chef’s signature olive brine adding an unexpected depth that keeps you coming back for another sip.

It’s made for warm spring days, good food and easy-going gatherings around the table.

A WINNING SEASON

It’s been an exceptional season of recognition for us at Groot Phesantekraal, led by a standout performance at the inaugural Cape Town Young Wine Show. We were delighted to be named the Hillebrand Gori Cape Town Young Wine Show Regional Champion, while also taking home regional trophies for Chenin Blanc, White Blend and Sweet Wine. Our Chenin Blanc then went on to claim champion status at the National Young Wine Show.

The celebrations continue, with our Syrah 2024 named among the Top 10 wines in both the Winemag.co.za Prescient Shiraz Report 2026 and the Shiraz SA Challenge 2026.

Our Pinotage 2024 has also earned impressive recognition, winning the Pinotage Trophy at the SA Terroir Wine Awards 2026 and earning a place among the winning wines in the 2026 ABSA Top 10 Pinotage competition.

And there’s more! Tim Atkin MW awarded impressive scores to four of our wines in his 2026 South Africa Report, including 94 points for our Anna de Koning Chenin blanc.

Last Friday we also took home the Sauvignon blanc trophy on our Marizanne 2025 at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits awards.

It’s been an exciting awards season thus far for the team and a wonderful reflection of our vineyards, wines and people.

Purchase our award-winning wines, made by Richard Schroeder, online or in our tasting room. Link in our bio.

From farm to plate, every cut matters. 🥩

At Groot Phesantekraal, Chef Germaine Esau believes great food starts with exceptional ingredients — and our meat is no exception.

From carefully selected cuts to the craft of making his own cured meats, Chef Germaine brings a true respect for the produce to every plate. His house-made cured meats also feature on our cheese platters, adding another layer of flavour and craftsmanship to the experience.

Set in our beautifully restored 18th-century stable, our restaurant brings a true farm-to-table experience to life, with seasonal ingredients, honest flavours and dishes inspired by the land we call home.

And if you haven’t tried it yet, our weekly set menu has quickly become a firm favourite with our local community. Fresh, seasonal and always worth coming back for.

So gather your favourite people, pull up a chair and come experience the farm with us.
