🥗 It’s About More Than Just Food

Last week at BNI Crossfire, we had the pleasure of hearing from Pretty Tshofela from Pretty Tshofela Dieticians, who gave us a fresh perspective on what dieticians actually do - and, just as importantly, what they don’t do.

Pretty reminded us that when we think of dietitians, we should think “nutrition” - and so much more than simply weight loss or meal plans.

Dietitians prevent, educate, empower and support. They assess, diagnose, intervene and monitor, while working alongside other healthcare professionals to help people achieve better health and wellbeing.

From wellness programmes to nutritional support, their role is about helping people make informed choices and giving them the tools to improve their health.

It was an insightful keynote and a great reminder that sometimes our understanding of a profession only scratches the surface!

When You Look at the Bigger Picture 🏗️

Last week at BNI Crossfire, our members and visitors had the opportunity to hear from Stephen Knott from Stephen Knott Architects, who shared an interesting real-world example of why it is so important to look beyond the immediate request when it comes to building and architectural projects.

Stephen explained the situation of a client wanting to convert an existing jacuzzi area into a bathroom. While it may sound like a relatively simple project, Stephen’s approach was to first look at the bigger picture - including the approved building plans and the conditions attached to the property’s title deed.

The outcome highlighted an important lesson: sometimes the first step isn't the building work itself. Restrictive conditions may need to be removed first, which can take additional time and involve extra costs. Only once those matters have been addressed can the building plan application process move forward.

It was a great reminder that professional expertise is about more than simply completing the job - it’s about asking the right questions, understanding the full picture and making sure the correct processes are followed from the start.

🎁 And a special touch to the morning - Stephen personally made the beautiful wooden bowl that was given as the door prize!
