As a non-designated employer (fewer than 50 employees), you must still confirm or update your non-designated status on the Department of Employment and Labour's EE Online portal. This is very important because should you not be able to provide your EE certificate during your B-BBEE verification your Employment Equity points will be disallowed.

Running a technology company? Your B-BBEE thresholds might look familiar, but the scorecard behind them isn't. 💻

The ICT Sector Code follows the same turnover bands as the Generic Codes (EME, QSE, and Generic), but the Black ownership target rises to 30%, and two of the scorecard elements namely Enterprise Development and Socio-Economic Development only count if your spend is directed toward ICT-specific initiatives. General community or enterprise development spend outside the sector simply won't move your score.

Here's something worth knowing if you're in the audit or accounting training space: the CA Sector Code doesn't set its own turnover thresholds like some other sector codes do. It simply follows the Generic Codes, so EME, QSE, and Generic classifications work exactly as they would for any business.

But that familiarity can be misleading. The real story is in the scorecard itself, which is built specifically to grow the pipeline of Black Chartered Accountants, with a strong focus on increasing the number of Black women entering and progressing in the profession.

For audit firms and training offices, this means Skills Development spend needs to be deliberately aimed at mentoring, training, and creating pathways for Black trainees, not just ticking a generic training box.
