HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE FORMGUIDES 25 OCTOBER
-Andrew Harrison

1
12 UMZINDUZI 7 VIHZOE’S MAGIC 2 CAPTAIN’S ROSY 1 DIAMONDS AND TOADS
Preview: UMZINDUZI (12) drawn a touch wide but made good improvement at her second start and was touched off by what looks to be a promising sort. Should go close here. VIHZOE’S MAGIC (7) has not been far back in her three starts. She has been trying further but could do better over this trip. CAPTAIN’S ROSY (2) has not been far back in two starts and the extra furlong should suit. DIAMONDS AND TOADS (1) is back from a break but has shown some ability and can feature. (Andrew Harrison: 12-7-2-1).
2
Preview: LONG DAY’S JOURNEY (13) has drawn widest of all but he was well supported in the market on debut and finished close-up. He could be good enough to beat the draw. THEYDON’TKNOWME (5) is coming along the right way. He tried further last run but could prove better this shorter trip. ALMA MATER (2) returns from a long break but has shown ability and Marcus stays aboard from a good draw. PRECIOUS LOVE (12) has been consistent and now tries blinkers with a 2.5kg claimer up. (Andrew Harrison: 13-5-2-12).
3
5 JAYS DANCER 11 TRUMPS EXPRESS 7 BERNIE’S DREAM 10 RED HOT NIGHT
Preview: JAYS DANCER (5) has been knocking at the door for some time now. He goes very well over course and distance and must have a change of fortune soon. TRUMPS EXPRESS (11) has his first run for a new stable. He has shown some promise on the Highveld and can do better here. BERNIE’S DRAEM (7) found strong market support on debut and did not finish far back. He should come on from that run. RED HOT NIGHT (10) is battling to win but is seldom far off. He cannot b written off. (Andrew Harrison: 5-11-7-10).
4
2 CHEWBACA 11 GONTRAVELLIN 15 TIGER TANK 6 GOTITALL
Preview: CHEWBACA (2) lightly raced and a tough disappointing from a wide draw last start. Can make amends. GONTRAVELIN (11) was much improved with first time cheek pieces. Tries the turf for the first time. TIGER TANK (15) has been showing signs of coming to hand. Drawn wide but can make a bold bid. GOTITALL (6) showed some improvement at second time of asking. Longer trip should suit. (Andrew Harrison: 2-11-15-6).
5
2 CARBON FIBRE 10 MIGHTY SMART 3 FINAL OCCASION 16 PROUD WARRIOR
Preview: Wide open. CARBON FIBRE (2) took on stronger at his last two and was not far back. He should finish a lot closer here. MIGHTY SMART (10) has been consistent since being fitted with blinkers. He is fit and stays the trip. FINAL OCCASION (3) has put in two good recent showings and is seldom too far off. He can feature prominently if holding form. PROUD WARRIOR (16) does not have the best of draws but stays well and is holding form. (Andrew Harrison: 2-10-3-16).

6
2 FLICHITY BY FARR 3 MATTERHORN 1 ANSE LAZIO 8 CLOUDS OF WITNESS
Preview: Stable companions FLICHITY BY FARR (2) and MATTERHORN (3) could fight this one out. The mare has been racing in the best company and was a close-up third in the Gold Cup when back in blinkers. She has a useful 4kg claimer up and could prove the pick of the pair. Matterhorn (3) has come good since being send over ground. He goes this trip for the first time but should see it out comfortably. ANSE LAZIO (1) has some fair Cape staying form and although he takes on stronger here, he only has 52.5kg to shoulder which will make him extremely competitive. CLOUDS OF WITNESS (8) has been a little disappointing of late but did lose his jockey at the start last run and can do better here. (Andrew Harrison: 2-3-1-8).
7
5 SPECIAL BLEND 4 AFRICAN SUNRISE 3 BACKPACKER 8 IN JEST
Preview: SPECIAL BLEND (5) went walk-about in the betting last run but still managed a close-up fourth. He will much prefer this trip and should make a bold bid. AFRICAN SUNRISE (4) is not the easiest and finished two lengths behind Special Blend when last they met. However, he was out-paced in the finish and will much prefer this trip. BACKPACKER (3) has been consistent since being tried in blinkers but he takes on stronger and looks held at these weights. The mare IN JEST (8) is much better than her last run when tried in blinkers. They come off and she has a light weight. (Andrew Harrison: 5-4-3-8).
8
5 FLORENCE 4 FORT ROYAL 1 SWEETSCENTEDGREEN 6 SILVER DAZZLE
Preview: FLORENCE (5) makes the trip from the Highveld and brings some decent form. She was narrowly beaten last run and this shorter straight should suit. FORT ROYAL (4) has yet to finish unplaced since arriving in KZN. She has a light weight and a good draw. SWEETSCENTEDGREE (1) is still a maiden but this is a handicap and she has been showing steady improvement. SILVER DAZZLE (6) showed improved form when dropped back to a sprint and fitted with blinkers. A repeat of her last showing will see her competitive. (Andrew Harrison: 5-4-1-6).
9
4 LESLIE SHADOWLINER 11 PUTCHINI 13 BRAVO ZULU 3 ROY’S MAGIC
Preview: Open race. LESLIE SHADOWLINER (4) has been knocking on the door for some time now. He is back over a sprint and may be worth another chance. Veteran PUTCHINI (11) is always game and is in good form of late. He is back over his best surface. BRAVO ZULU (13) has come good of late and gets on well with apprentice Kyle Strydom. A wide draw is a concern. ROY’S MAGIC (3) is always game and is over his best trip. (Andrew Harrison: 4-11-13-3).

RACE 2
Preview: MACH FOUR (2) is improving with racing and seems ready to score. He gets a kind draw which will help too. LEGITIMATE (11) showed up well in both starts which were in KZN and should be very competitive in this and DIVERGENT (10) can improve to get much closer – respect. (Warren Lenferna 2-11-10)
RACE 3
Preview: GAINSFORD (1) romped home last time and is clearly talented – yes, it is harder first time out the maidens but he looks more than capable of following up. RACE 4

She nearly won the SA Fillies Sprint last time in KZN and rates the one they all have to peg back. RACE 7
Preview: PRINCESS CALLA (1) ran an absolute cracker behind Anything Goes last time in KZN and is clearly above average. She is the confident first choice. TWO PENNIES (12) won on debut and could be anything – keep an eye on her and include her in the play and DAZZLING SUN (8) won her maiden well and is so well bred – she could follow up. There are many others with a chance too! (Warren Lenferna 1-12-8)
RACE 8
Preview: I’m going with the lighter weight and the horses better drawn here. PINKERTON (6) has won his last two well and can win again. PATH OF CHOICE (8) ran a cracker last time and can get closer now and ORAKAL (7) is never too far off the action and should be in the money. (Warren Lenferna 6-8-7)
RACE 9
Preview: ALFRED’S LEGACY (1) ran third last time to Fort Agopian whom won oh so well during the past week and has a bright winning chance here. FLY OVER (5) should be in the shake up and WOLFE GUARD (3) has been chosen as the place value in the race. (Warren Lenferna 1-5-3)

Jack Milner: Jockey Greg Cheyne and trainer Alan Greeff could come away from Friday’s meeting on the Fairview Polytrack with an abundance of winners.

1 OCT 2020
Marmara Sea came to Port Elizabeth, had a workout on the Polytrack and fell in love.

The son of Soft Falling Rain is now unbeaten in four starts on the surface and will attempt to extend that to five in Race 3 at Fairview today, a MR 95 Handicap over 1600m.

The question one needs to answer is how much this four-year-old gelding had in hand when he won his last start. As has been the case with all four wins, he has not broken on terms with the balance of the field and that has forced his jockey to settle him near the rear, and then run at them

So far Marmara Sea has done that with ease and last time out, over this course and distance, he went on to beat Dubula by 1.25 lengths. However, the runner-up is now 2.5kg better off and that is often enough to turn the result around.

But the manner in which Marmara Sea mowed down his opposition gives one the impression there is loads more “vooma” in his tank.

Alan Greeff’s charge renews his relationship with jockey Greg Cheyne who missed the last two rides.

Greeff has a very strong card of runners and another likely winner for Cheyne pops up in Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m, where he rides Sullenberger. This Captain Of All gelding is also unbeaten on the Polytrack although he has just had two runs on the course.

Stablemate Verbarium has a 4kg swing for a 3.25-length beating but over this distance, and taking into account the ease of the victory, Sullenberger looks likely to retain his advantage.

Take the double!

Police and members of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League were at the Fairview Racecourse early on Thursday morning, following reports that at least one horse had been killed, allegedly by a group of protesters.

A number of horses were also released from their stables at the course, allegedly by the same group.

Reports from the scene are that at least one horse was murdered and another injured. Nine of the missing 22 horses have been found.

It is alleged the large group of people, including grooms, were at the racecourse at about 6am.

By 9am the group had dispersed.

A member of a private security company told HeraldLIVE that one horse was confirmed dead and another had its legs broken

Cape Town - Race and sports betting operator Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Group is selling its horse-racing business to the Oppenheimer family to get out of debt.

The company, which manages horse racing and tote betting in the Western Cape on behalf of Kenilworth Racing, published its official business rescue proposal, which aims to pull the struggling company out of the financial troubles that led to it filing for bankruptcy protection in May.

Back in May, Phumelela got a R100 million financial lifeline from one of its largest creditors, Mary Oppenheimer Daughters (MOD), which is operated by Mary Oppenheimer-Slack and her daughter Jessica Jell, members of one of South Africa’s richest family.

Last week, the firm’s business rescue practitioner (BRP), John Evans, presented a R550m bid put in by MOD to Phumelela creditors for approval.

“The BRP received many expressions of interest for the component parts of the business or assets.

“Following a fast-track sale process we received formal proposals from those interested parties. The implementation of the plan will result in a better financial return and general outcome to concurrent creditors as opposed to a liquidation of the company,” said Evans.

“The adoption of the plan will allow the BRP time to effect an orderly sale of Phumelela assets - assets other than those which MOD are acquiring conditional to their R550m financing,” said Evans.

Spokesperson for the restructuring task team Charles Savage said: “We are very pleased with the plan presented by John Evans.

“Mary Slack and Jessica Jell have a long history of horse racing and breeding in South Africa and they have a strong desire to secure the Phumelela racing assets for the immediate benefit of South African horse racing, as well as to assist in transforming racing to a long-term, sustainable and all-inclusive industry for the benefit of all concerned
