TOPIC - PIR (Pet Friendly) ALARM MOTION DETECTORS

Many alarm systems use motion detector sensors, most of them use PIR motion-detecting technology, which uses infrared light reflected from other objects. Sometimes, these sensors can ignore your pet up to a specific size or allow you to disregard just a single large dog or even multiple small cats.

Plus, many modern IR motion sensors are designed to ignore the heat signature of pets below a certain weight–typically 40 pounds or so.

See the Motion Detectors Concept in the picture below

TOPIC - ALARM SYSTEMS HELPFUL EXTRAS

🔻KEYPAD -To arm or disarm, security systems commonly require a code, which we enter on a keypad that’s mounted to the wall or placed on a flat surface.

🔻KEY FOBS / REMOTES - We have keys to our cars, so why not have them for our security system as well? Key fobs allow us to disarm or arm our security system without having to use a keypad. They’re perfect for when we’re upstairs and just don’t feel like leaving our bed!

🔻PANIC BUTTON - If something goes wrong, a panic button is an easy and fast way to alert emergency services, be it the police, hospital, or even the fire department. Like key fobs, panic buttons aren’t installed anywhere in particular, but we always have one around in case of an emergency. We recommend that everyone keep at least one at their bedside table.

đź”»BASE STATION - Base stations sync all of the connected devices with our mobile application so we can receive those notifications we mentioned earlier. Think of it like Grand Central Station, the channel through which trains (i.e., IoT security devices) pass through.

đź”»SIGNS - Yard sign and/ or window stickers, Many security systems also give out yard signs or window stickers that allow us to advertise that we have a security system. Often, burglars will turn around if they see a security system, so these signs are good to have.

SMOKE & CO DETECTORS - We recommend that every home have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector. With this simple tool, we are alerted if the air in our home becomes unsafe to breathe.

Security system components vary wildly from system to system, consisting of just sensors for some companies and all of these components and more for others.

TOPIC - GLASS BREAK SENSOR ALARM SYSTEM

Sometimes, instead of opening windows the old-fashioned way, intruders will simply break them open to avoid setting off the entry sensors. However, a glass break sensor also detects the sound of glass breaking and alerts us via mobile or through the wired system siren.

TOPIC - ENTRY SENSOR / DOOR OR WINDOW CONTACT SENSOR ALARM SYSTEMS

Entry sensor: Also known as contact sensors, entry sensors have two parts i.e one that goes on the window or door and another that goes on the frame. These sensors use magnets to determine when one of these entrances is opened or closed. If the sensor thinks an entry point is opened, it alerts us.

We suggest placing / installing entry sensors on windows or doors on the ground floor. The majority are battery-operated, and many even have adhesive backings for easy installation however some are also work with the hardwired alarm systems making then more reliable and centrally controlled & monitored.

TOPIC - MOTION DETECTOR ALARM SYSTEMS

How Does a Motion Activated Alarm Work?

Before we get into which motion activated alarms are best, let’s take a quick look at how different types of alarms work.

Today, most alarms use passive infrared technology (PIR). This detects body heat, not simply motion. Because of this, false alarms are reduced; the detector won’t pick up a bug crawling across the floor or a stray cobweb, for example. It works by detecting a rapid change in heat when a person enters the field of vision of the camera. Heat shows up as infrared light that the camera can detect.

Another less common way to detect motion is with an active motion sensor. This type of motion activated alarm uses a beam of light; the alarm activates when the beam is broken. When you choose an active motion sensor, you’re more likely to have false alarms because the beam can be broken by anything, such as a paper blown off a desk in the breeze.

A third type of motion activated alarm uses radio microwave pulses and reflected ultrasonic waves. The sensor sends out a sound wave and measures the time and intensity of return. If the time and intensity change, it triggers the alarm.

Finally, security cameras can also use video analytics to detect motion. They use predefined borders to detect an object entering or leaving an area.

TOPIC - RAPID RESPONSE SERVICES

RAPID RESPONSE ALARM MONITORING

Intruders and criminals have the ability to enter your property without you knowing. Having a robust alarm system and 24/7 monitoring in place is essential to preventing theft or property damage.

When an alarm is tripped, a rapid response team is dispatched immediately to survey the situation and secure the area again. This immediate response is one of the benefits of hiring a rapid response security team to keep your home or business safe.

You can also advertise your alarm monitoring service outside your business to deter crime from happening in the first place. Criminals that know you have an alarm monitoring service are more likely to leave you alone and move on.

Alarm monitoring eases stress—you can rely on the fact that your loved ones or team members are out of harm’s reach. Your rapid response team handles potentially dangerous situations swiftly and adeptly. They are trained and experienced, which means they are able to respond effectively to threats so you don’t have to.

NB - RAPID RESPONSE can also cover Safety, Health & Fire Emergencies

TOPIC - MONITORED ALARM SYSTEMS

Monitored Alarm Systems

A monitored alarm system is monitored by a security team. If the alarm is tripped, they are immediately alerted and begin taking action. Monitored systems also alert you if the alarm is tripped. When the monitoring center is notified of an alarm, they typically get in contact with you and alert the proper authorities. They are able to see what type of alarm was triggered and get first responders there quickly, be it firefighters, police, or medical personnel.

Monitored systems can give you peace of mind that even when you are away, your building will be taken care of in the event an alarm is triggered. Monitored systems tend to be more pricey because you are paying for that team to be constantly monitoring your property. Usually, you’ll pay a monthly fee to continue your monitoring service.

TOPIC - UNMONITORED ALARM SYSTEM

Unmonitored Alarm Systems

An unmonitored alarm system is not monitored by anybody remotely or in a control center. Additionally, they do not alert authorities of the alarm. Rather, an unmonitored system sounds a local alarm when needed, and it relies on people in the vicinity being able to hear the alarm. Types of alarms in an unmonitored system can include beeps, buzzers, lights, and voice alarms.

Unmonitored systems are typically cheaper than monitored systems, but they don’t provide the same level of security you’ll get with a system that is monitored 24/7. In some cases, an unmonitored system can send an alert to an app on your phone if the alarm is tripped. Then, you can alert any proper authorities or respond to the alarm yourself. This is a nice feature, but it relies on you constantly keeping tabs on your property. Because an unmonitored alarm system is not quite as secure as a monitored system, it’s not always the best choice. However, it is cheaper than a monitored system because you don’t need to pay a monthly fee for monitoring, so if you’re on a tight budget, it is a viable option.

TOPIC - WIRELESS ALARM SYSTEMS

Wireless Alarm Systems

A wireless alarm system is a security system that is not connected by wires in your building, rather it works by using radio frequencies. Wireless systems use sensors that can trigger an alarm if they are tripped. The sensors use radio frequency to send a signal to the control panel of the system if an alarm needs to go off.

One of the main advantages of wireless alarm systems and one of the reasons they are so popular today is that you can easily connect to your wireless system remotely and even monitor the system over your smartphone or tablet.

Of course, you’ll need to regularly replace batteries in a wireless system, and it’s important to make sure you maintain a strong signal. To keep a strong signal, you cannot exceed the maximum distance between the sensors and the control panel. This can be a problem in larger buildings, so often wireless systems are better for smaller properties.

TOPIC - WIRED ALARM SYSTEMS

Wired Alarm Systems

A wired alarm system is a security system that is connected by designated wires in your building. Every single component of the system needs to be hard-wired in order for the system to work. This provides a consistent and uninterrupted connection. Wired systems are generally very reliable, and they don’t require high-speed internet or fresh batteries to work. They work well in large areas where the system may be spread out over a large distance. With hard wiring, you don’t need to worry about the distance any sensors are from a control panel.

One downside to a wired alarm system is that if the wires are damaged or cut, the system will no longer work. They will also fail to work if your building loses power.
NB - Note that most alarm systems can be powered completely by a mini 12V Solar Kit

Additionally, wired systems can be difficult and expensive to install especially for bigger premises because you’ll need to run wires throughout your building.

TOPIC - WHAT ARE FIRE ALARMS

đź”´ Fire Alarm System

A fire alarm system should be installed in every occupied building. They can range from simple systems with only smoke detectors to elaborate systems with pull stations, control centers, and sprinklers.

In all cases, a fire alarm system will alert occupants of the threat. In many cases, the system can also alert the fire department and other appropriate authorities of the fire. Unlike security systems, fire alarm systems are mandated by local codes and laws. As such, be sure to follow the rules when choosing and installing a fire alarm system. While you still have a choice in what type of system you install, you need to make sure your system is meeting minimum basic requirements.

NB - Other Fire / Gas Smoke Detectors are much simpler, battery operated and less costly to not more than USD $35 each
