The old work and the new business spend from the same account. Only one of them ever sends you a bill.

That's the whole reason this stays invisible. The money arrives with a date on it and a notification on your phone. The months leave without a sound, and no receipt turns up for the evening you sat down and got nowhere.

So put both columns on paper. It takes ten minutes.

Column one is what the last yes actually paid you, in money and in months of runway. Column two is what those same months were meant to build, named specifically enough that you'd know whether it happened. Not "work on the business." A page that's live. A price you can say out loud. One person who has paid you.

Then before the next yes, one question. What will my business have at the end of this that it doesn't have now?

If the honest answer is money and nothing else, you can still say yes. You'll just be saying a different one, with the months already written down and one thing on the list that survives the contract.

Ask what a contract costs and almost everyone answers in hours.

It's the wrong unit. You can always find hours, you've proved that a hundred times. What you can't find is what you needed to bring to them.

That's why your own business still looks the way it did six months ago, and why you can't work out where the time went.

Now notice what you said last.

That's your third thing, wearing a soft little coat, with "as well" or "on the side" sitting in front of it. And the order was never about how good you are at any of it. It's about how safe you feel being seen doing it.

So I pulled a card for the third thing itself. Then two more underneath, for what's been keeping it there.

I'm not giving it away here. But the line I came away with was this. Your third thing isn't sitting third because it's worth less. It's sitting there because it's worth more, and you haven't felt safe leading with it yet.

I sell business strategy. I don't think strategy is what's stopping you.

A beautiful soul messaged me this week in a panic. She thinks she's hired the wrong coach.

(Not me. She's working with someone else and reached out while she's in the thick of it.)

Stuck. Overwhelmed. Told me she had a full breakdown last week.

I emailed her straight back: that is AMAZING.

Stay with me. I don't think it's amazing that she's in pain. It's amazing because of what it means. She's hit the edge.

Her nervous system is struggling. It's triggered. Because she's growing. Her business is asking her to become someone slightly bigger, and every part of her is going whoa, too much, too fast. So she slams the brakes on. On the growth. On herself.

Is she with the wrong coach? I don't know. But for someone right where she is, the right coach is the one who can hold space. Who can sit with her while she feels all of it and grows herself, so her business can grow too.

That holding space at the edge? That's the bit I specialize in. Maybe why she reached out. I don't know.

Because this squeezy, want-to-burn-it-all-down moment is the work. Stop. Go quiet. Listen.
