We are pleased to share that Timor Innovation Hub (TLIH) is the local partner for ITEC ASEAN 2026, a regional initiative supporting ASEAN entrepreneurs to explore opportunities and expand their ventures into Thailand and China.
Through this programme, selected startups will have opportunities to connect with regional markets, funding, investors, partners, and the wider ASEAN and China startup ecosystem.
TLIH is encouraging innovative and growth-oriented startups from Timor-Leste to take advantage of this opportunity and represent Timor-Leste on the regional stage.

Last week at TLIH, we had the opportunity to conduct a 360° business diagnosis with Similie and Belun Intech, the two Timor-Leste startups selected to participate in the SCOPE Trade programme, implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC).

They are among approximately 100 startups from across ASEAN selected to take part in the programme, making this an exciting opportunity for Timor-Leste’s emerging technology ecosystem to connect with the wider regional market.

As the local partner for SCOPE Trade in Timor-Leste, TLIH is supporting the two selected startups throughout their journey, helping them assess their businesses, identify areas for growth, strengthen their readiness for internationalisation, and connect with regional networks, markets, investors and potential partners.

The 360° diagnosis was an important first step. Through in-depth discussions with both teams, we explored their business models, products and services, market positioning, operations, growth ambitions, and the opportunities and challenges they face as they look towards expanding beyond Timor-Leste.

For TLIH, it is exciting to see Timorese-founded technology companies being part of a regional platform alongside startups from across ASEAN. We look forward to supporting Similie and Belun Intech as they strengthen their businesses and explore new opportunities across the region.
This is exactly the kind of regional connection and market access we want to help build for Timor-Leste’s entrepreneurs and startups.

🚀 Calling all Tech-Enabled Startups in Timor-Leste!

The Timor-Leste Innovation Hub (TLIH) is proud as the in-country partner for the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE) Trade Project in Timor-Leste.

Through this initiative, the ASEAN Secretariat, in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), is supporting promising tech-enabled startups across ASEAN to strengthen their internationalisation efforts and expand into regional and global markets.

This is an exciting opportunity for Timorese startups to gain international exposure and connect with the wider ASEAN innovation ecosystem.

Selected startups will receive:
✅ Tailored coaching and mentorship
✅ Access to international networks and potential partners
✅ Market exposure across ASEAN and the EU
✅ Strategic support to strengthen business growth and scalability

Our Managing Director, Claudia Ximenes , recently joined the SCOPE Trade Training of Trainers Workshop in Manila, Philippines, together with Timor-Leste Innovation and other tech hubs and business support organisations from across ASEAN. The participants were selected by the ITC EU–ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE Trade) to collaborate and co-implement this initiative over 2026–2029.

The workshop is designed to strengthen sustainable connectivity between ASEAN and the EU, as well as within ASEAN, with a focus on trade, economic integration, and sustainable value chains.

The next step is to turn these learnings into action by supporting 10 startups through targeted capacity-building programmes. An Expression of Interest (EOI) will be launched soon for startups that are ready to scale beyond Timor-Leste and explore opportunities in EU trade and business markets.

When ecosystem builders grow their capabilities together, startups across the region grow further, faster, and beyond borders.

Today, we welcome Nick Kettle as the Business Development Lead and External Relations Advisor to Timor-Leste Innovation Hub.

Nick brings a strong background in international development, fluency in Tetum, and experience across Timor-Leste’s oil, gas and mining sector. He has worked closely with Timorese and Australian businesses, helping to build relationships, facilitate connections and support stronger engagement between both countries.

At the Hub, Nick will support business development, build strategic partnerships and strengthen engagement with local and international stakeholders.
