This World Teachers' Day, we're celebrating the brilliant teachers who make NECA Education & Careers what it is.

They know their stuff, they're passionate about sharing their knowledge, and they're always there - training and mentoring the next generation of electrical professionals.

We are so lucky to have Maddy on our team!

✨ Meet Maddy ✨

Hi, I’m Maddison, a Licensed Electrician with a background in commercial and industrial projects.
I completed my apprenticeship hosted with RBD Electrical through NECA, working at Hydro on the Catagunya AC Upgrades, at TasNetworks upgrading switchyards and spent almost 2 years on the Lands Building Redevelopment. I now work at NECA, where I manage apprentices and work closely with employers and industry across Southern Tasmania.

I enjoy working in a trade as I’m someone who likes to be moving constantly, problem solving and love a challenge.
Even outside of work, I like to stay busy. I’ve played SFLW for the last 6 years, get to the gym when I can, alongside renovating a house and cleaning up 5 acres.
My guilty pleasures are eating, netflixing and espresso martini-ing, you could probably bribe me with the right snack.
I’ve wanted to go skydiving and bungee jumping since I was younger, love abseiling and would like to get into outdoor rock climbing… maybe once the house is finished and I have time for another hobby.

I think the Women in Electro Advisory Board is a great initiative to show younger women that a career in the electrical industry is a real option for them. I hope I can help provide the representation and encouragement that I didn't have, creating more opportunities and confidence for the next generation of women entering the trade.

There’s no one way into the electrical industry, and these five pre-apprentices are a pretty good example of that.

Meet Evelyn, Grace, Holly, Mikayla and Mikhayla, who have completed their Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) with NECA Education & Careers, through Women and Their Trade, a Tasmanian Government funded program.

They’re now undertaking work experience and looking for apprenticeships.

The program is funded by the Tasmanian Government through Women and Their Trade.
Their reasons for choosing the electrical trade are all a little different.

For Evelyn, it was the mix of hands-on work, technical thinking and problem solving.
Grace grew up around electrical concepts thanks to her dad’s engineering background and has always been curious about how it all works.

Holly was drawn to a trade because she wanted something practical and hands-on. She’s already putting that into practice through weekly work experience with a local electrical business.
Mikayla came from a completely different career as a vet nurse and was looking for something more challenging, practical and rewarding.

And Mikhayla knew she loved logical problem solving from her background in programming - she just also knew she wasn’t made to sit behind a desk all day.

Different backgrounds. Different motivations. Same next step.

And that’s really what the Certificate II is all about... it's all giving people the chance to explore the electrical industry, build practical skills and work out whether this could be the career for them.

Judging by this group, we think they’re onto something. 👏⚡

What a result! 👏

A huge congratulations to NECAs former apprentice Baxter Lewis, who has been named 2026 Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year!

Baxter, who was hosted by Frontline Electrical, took out the award at Friday night’s Tasmanian Training Awards at Wrest Point in Hobart.

To be named Apprentice of the Year is a fabulous achievement and recognises the work, commitment and skills Baxter has demonstrated throughout his electrical apprenticeship.

And it gets even better…

Baxter will now represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards in Sydney this November.

We were incredibly proud to have four NECA E&C apprentices among this year’s finalists - Baxter, Daniel Gillie, Callum Butler and Christopher McKnight - and to see Baxter come away with the state’s top apprentice award makes it a pretty special result for everyone involved.

A big thank you also to Frontline Electrical for the training, mentoring and workplace experience they continue to provide as Baxter’s Host Employer.

Congratulations Baxter. Enjoy this one ... you’ve earned it! 💪⚡
