Over the last couple of weeks we've visited OneSchool Global in Mt Victoria and Erskine's Little Learners day care centre 🎒✏️

We visit both of these clients every 6 to 12 months for their routine RCD testing and test and tag services - all part of keeping students, educators and little ones safe.

Whether it’s a school, childcare or early learning centre, aged care facility or any other workplace, routine electrical safety checks are a vital part of creating and maintaining a safer environment for everyone.

Can you spot the problem here?🔥

Plugging power adaptors, power boards and extension leads into each other might seem like an easy way to get more outlets, but it can seriously increase the risk of overloading, overheating and fire.

The fix here was simple - we removed the adaptors that were plugged into each other and used one appropriately rated power board instead.

Improving electrical safety in the workplace can be as simple as making a small change before it becomes a big problem!

What happens when an appliance fails the test? 🔌

A failed test doesn’t always mean the equipment is ready for the bin, but it does mean that it is not safe to use in its current condition.

If a piece of electrical equipment fails, we identify the issue and make sure it is clearly labelled as not safe for use.

Common issues can include damaged plugs, frayed or damaged cords, exposed wiring, or faulty switches.

Depending on the fault, it might need to be repaired by a qualified person, or it might need to be replaced. If the issue is a damaged plug, we also provide a plug replacement service!

Regular testing and tagging helps you stay ahead of the game when it comes to workplace safety - identifying and addressing hazards before they put your people at risk ⚡

How do you know if your test & tag was done properly? ⚡

There’s more to a proper test & tag service than just sticking a sticker on a power lead.

Here’s what you should look for after your test and tag technician has finished:

✅ A clear, legible test tag:
Tags should provide relevant testing information including the testing date and next test date.

✅ The tester is identified:
The testing record should identify the person who carried out the testing.

✅ You receive testing records:
A proper record should show what was tested, the outcome, who tested it and when it needs to be tested again. In NSW, these records need to be kept until the equipment is next tested, permanently removed or disposed of.

✅ Failed equipment isn’t simply tagged and left in service:
If equipment is unsafe or fails testing, it should be removed from service and clearly identified so it isn’t accidentally used.

✅ The equipment has actually been inspected - not just tagged:
Test & tag isn't just about putting a new sticker on old equipment. Electrical equipment should be visually inspected for damage as part of the testing process

✅ The person doing the testing is competent:
In NSW, electrical equipment requiring inspection and testing must be tested by someone with the appropriate qualifications and skills.

Most importantly, a test tag doesn't automatically mean that a piece of equipment is safe forever. Equipment should still be visually checked before use, and testing frequency depends on the type of workplace, equipment and level of risk.

When you book your test and tag with us, you can be sure that your test & tag is done properly. Keeping your team safe and your business compliant is our top priority!
