Neurological recovery starts long before walking. 🧠🐾

Kirpa has Stage 5 IVDD. With surgery not an option and a very guarded prognosis, her outlook was grim.

But the nervous system has an incredible ability to adapt through neuroplasticity — strengthening and reorganising neural pathways following injury.

Standing independently, maintaining balance and weight bearing are important building blocks of neurological recovery.

And here is Kirpa, standing and balancing all by herself. ❤️

Sometimes the smallest-looking milestones are actually enormous.

Meet Penelope — the beginning of her rehab journey 💗

Penelope has recently started her rehabilitation and Bowen therapy with me following surgery for IVDD.

She’s still quite roached through her back and wobbly on her hind legs, with her right hind a little slower to respond. She’s now having weekly rehabilitation and Bowen therapy to support her recovery, improve mobility and address the soft-tissue tension and compensation that can develop following spinal injury and surgery.

Her rehabilitation also focuses on encouraging appropriate movement and sensory input as her nervous system continues to recover and adapt.

When we first started, Penelope was very sensitive through her soft tissues, so we’re working gently to reduce this tension and help her move more freely and comfortably. Today was only her second treatment, and she was already noticeably less sensitive. 💕

We still have a way to go, but she is such a happy little girl and we’re looking forward to sharing her progress with you.

Three years ago, I thought I was going to lose my active, happy dog I knew. 💔

My girl Milly was diagnosed with lumbosacral disease, she was in constant pain. She could barely walk more than a few steps before needing to stop. Watching her struggle was heartbreaking.

We saw a specialist, had an MRI, and explored every option. Surgery wasn’t suitable for Milly. We tried medication, but unfortunately it didn’t give her the relief we’d hoped for.

That’s when I focused on supporting her in every way I could.

I introduced Full Spectrum H**p Oil alongside a carefully planned rehabilitation program that included weekly Bowen therapy and other targeted supplements.

Fast forward to today…

This video was filmed just a few months ago.

Milly is now 12 years old, running along the beach with so much joy. Incredibly, she’s actually moving better now than she was at nine, when we feared her condition would only continue to decline.

I can’t say one thing alone made the difference. Her progress is the result of a comprehensive management plan, consistency and time.

🐾 When X-rays Are Clear… But Your Dog Still Won’t Walk

Three months ago, Tiggi suddenly lost the use of her back legs. After six weeks of crate rest, she regained mobility, but she still wasn’t herself.

She didn’t want to go for walks, spent most of the day lying in bed, was very stiff and wobbly, and had a persistent hind limb limp.

Her X-rays were reported as clear, but X-rays don’t always explain why a dog is still struggling. Following a spinal or neurological injury, dogs can be left with muscle weakness, tightness, reduced confidence and altered movement patterns.

That’s where canine rehabilitation can help.

Since starting weekly Bowen Therapy and rehabilitation, Tiggi has continued to improve:

✔️ Happier and brighter
✔️ Walking more willingly
✔️ Much less stiffness
✔️ Hind limb limp is now barely noticeable

Recovery doesn’t always end when crate rest finishes. Spinal rehabilitation is about restoring movement, strength and confidence so dogs can get back to enjoying life.

Otis’ Stage 3 IVDD Recovery Journey ❤️

Otis came to me after being diagnosed with Stage 3 IVDD, and together with his owner, Kirsty, we put a conservative management plan into action.

His Mum acted quickly, worked closely with her veterinarian, started the appropriate anti-inflammatory medication, and committed fully to strict rest. She made the decision early to pursue conservative treatment and followed every step of the plan.

Once Otis was ready, we began his rehabilitation with Bowen therapy, completing an intensive five-week treatment program.

Today, Otis has made fantastic progress. He is moving so much better and has now transitioned to a maintenance program, along with targeted supplements, to help keep his spine as strong, mobile, and supple as possible. Ongoing maintenance also allows us to monitor for any early warning signs of IVDD so we can intervene promptly if needed.

A huge thank you to Long Dogs WA and everyone who supports their fundraising. Your generosity helps provide rehabilitation for dachshunds like Otis and gives them the best possible chance of recovery.

Little Limbo update! ❤️

If you remember Limbo, he’s the little Dachshund who wears a spinal brace and, for over four years, wasn’t able to walk unaided.

After his initial intensive course of Bowen therapy, he now comes in just once a month for maintenance.

The best part? His owner tells me he hasn’t had a single pain episode since starting treatment, and he hasn’t needed any pain medication either. 🙌

He’s continuing to build strength and muscle, walking further and further on his own, and when he wants to go exploring, he still loves using his wheels. He recently enjoyed adventures through the forests and beaches of Denmark!

Limbo has a real new lease on life. He recently turned 8 years old, proving that age isn’t always the limiting factor. With the right support and management, dogs can continue to surprise us.

Quick update on Milly ❤️

Just a few short weeks ago, Milly was diagnosed with Stage 5 IVDD and was paralysed.

I was able to see her within the first week after she went down. At the time, she wasn’t eating, wouldn’t take her pain medication, and her family were faced with the heartbreaking decision of surgery or euthanasia.

After her first treatment, Milly started showing movement in her toes. A few days later, she took her first wobbly steps.

This week was Milly’s third treatment. She’s now walking confidently on lead, trying to run, toileting independently, and her back is much less roached. ❤️

A huge well done to her dedicated family for following her rehabilitation plan so closely.

Every dog is different, and outcomes can never be guaranteed, but stories like Milly’s remind us that there can still be hope. 🩵
