At the end of November, our senior management team visited our Hazelmere Workshop to recognise several recent successes achieved by the team. Purchasing Coordinator Ben Graham and Workshop Supervisor Brad Lines were presented with service awards, celebrating 15 years and 5 years’ service with the company.

Our CEO Greg Heylen also presented Brad Lines, HD Fitter Mladen Grgich and Manager Mobile Plant Technical Support Greg Rogers with a bobblehead of themselves and a $250 Red Balloon voucher as they are the recipients of the FY20 First Quarter Transformation Award.

Along with recently achieving 4 years recordable injury-free, these achievements are a testament to the outstanding work our Hazelmere Workshop has accomplished throughout this year. We want to congratulate the team at Hazelmere, recognising these successes and our appreciation for their commitment to BGC Contracting.

On the 16th of October we hosted a breakfast at our Hazelmere Workshop, to celebrate four years as an injury-free workplace.

Due to the high risk work the team regularly completes, particularly when overhauling large components and machinery, this great safety achievement shows the team’s consistent approach to keeping focused on the task at hand. Manager Mobile Plant Technical Support Greg Rogers acknowledged that this award and continued safety record is testament to the team's ability to stop and assess the task, using their experience and skill, to provide a safe way to complete the job.

By fostering a strong one-team culture, the Workshop team is not only safeguarding our people with an incident-free workplace, but also demonstrating our Vision To Transform Tomorrow.

In late September, BGC Contracting was requested by Northern Star Resources to perform critical re-handle movements from four different locations at their Jundee mine site.

To achieve this, our team at Ramone mobilised our existing mining fleet from the project, located approximately 34km away, across to Jundee.

The project spanned over six days and involved the transport of six dump trucks and an excavator. Utilising a 120t low loader float, a four-vehicle es**rt team, and adopted an “operator buddy process” at a steep switchback section of ramp that was single lane, the project was successfully closed out within the narrow time frame the team had to work within. What’s also important to note is that it was completed incident free which is an excellent achievement.

The success of this project showcases the agility, and dynamic capabilities of our mining business unit, going above and beyond to meet client needs.

Over the past two weeks, our South Australian Operations team have hosted two Family Open Days at our South Middleback Ranges and Iron Baron sites. These open days gave families the opportunity to see and experience the mining environments where their loved ones work. Visitors were treated to a site induction, including a tour of the active mining pit and workshop, followed by a BBQ lunch.

The open days reinforce BGC Contracting's commitment to looking after our people and their families, whilst also displaying a sense of pride in who we are and what we do.
