Speaking up about child safety is not just a policy issue. It’s a culture issue.

You can have strong policies, procedures and reporting systems in place, but if educators don’t feel confident or supported to raise concerns, those systems may not work when they matter most.

Creating a genuine Child Safe Culture means building a team where speaking up feels normal, expected and supported.

In this article, I share 5 practical strategies Early Learning leaders can use to strengthen that culture across their service.

Today we celebrate the extraordinary Early Childhood Educators across Australia who show up every day to teach, nurture, protect, comfort, advocate and create places where children can feel safe, loved and able to thrive.

At Happy Team Culture, we have the privilege of supporting Early Learning leaders to create the kind of workplaces that help educators be at their best.

Because educators deserve more than appreciation that sits on the surface.

They deserve to feel seen, heard and safe.
They deserve teams that have their back.
They deserve leaders who are aligned and supportive.
They deserve connection, laughter and joy in their workplace.
And they deserve appreciation they can actually feel in the way people speak, support, notice and show up for each other every day.

Because people don’t connect just because they work together.

They connect when they feel seen, heard and safe enough to be themselves.

So today, to every Early Learning Educator on Early Childhood Educators Day thank you.

For the little things nobody sees.
For the children you notice.
For the colleagues you support.
For the conversations you have.
For the moments you speak up.
And for the countless little imprints you leave on children and families every single day.

Seeing the Grow Early Learning Centre - Blacktown team proudly holding their Culture Guides is such a special full-circle moment.

Over the past six months, I’ve had the privilege of guiding Sussana, Mel, Pradnya the Grow ELC leadership team through their Happy Team Culture journey — helping them build their culture story, shared values fueled by their existing commitment to providing a family-feel environment at their centres. Our goal to turn this vision into something their team can see, hold, use and bring to life every day.

A Culture Guide is more than a booklet.

It becomes a visible reminder of:

✨ and how we create the best environment for children to grow
