The cheapest software decision upfront often becomes the most expensive later.

It usually goes like this: a GM has an operational challenge, so they go on Google and find a few software tools that would "solve" their challenge.
They watch a few demos, compare features and, especially, pricing.
GMs think their software costs is the total of their monthly subscription: user fees, platform fees, AI token usage.

Sounds logical. But it's not real.

The real cost is hidden. In the hundreds of tiny compensations your team makes every day to keep duct-taped systems functioning. In the spreadsheet someone maintains “just in case” (and because they don't trust the data on the official software). In the workarounds everyone just accepts because “that’s how it's always been done”.

That business ends up paying for 100% of the subscription fees, while only using 10% of it.

Good software is NOT the unicorn platform with the most features (or that everyone seems to use except you!).
Efficiency can only be found in the platform that fits your operational systems. That is why we always say technology should follow system design, never the reverse.
