This is what grounding can look like. ๐
Sometimes support isnโt sitting across a table talking about whatโs wrong.
Sometimes itโs getting out of the house.
Being near the water.
Sharing a meal.
Slowing everything down.
Feeling safe enough to simply be.
At Heroes Assist, we work predominantly within the psychosocial, complex mental health and neurodivergent space, and one thing we understand deeply is the importance of meeting people where they are.
When life feels overwhelming, we focus on creating moments of calm, connection and safety. That might mean heading to one of our favourite spots by the water, grabbing some lunch, taking a walk, or simply sitting together while the nervous system has a chance to settle.
There doesnโt always need to be pressure to do something.
Sometimes being present is the support.
Our approach is grounded in manaakitanga โ care, respect, compassion and genuine connection. We want the people we support to feel valued, heard and supported as a whole person, not treated like a checklist of services to deliver.
And lately, the feedback weโve been receiving from our participants has reminded us exactly why we choose to work this way. ๐
Calm first. Connection always. Then we move forward together.

Support that feels human.
