CBE-GEIE is a European Economic Interest Grouping based in Brussels.

Since 1992, it has connected Europe with local territories, providing information, advisory and project development services on EU programmes and opportunities. Coopération Bancaire pour l’Europe - GEIE è una società con sede a Bruxelles nata nel 1992 su iniziativa di alcune banche internazionali con l’obiettivo di sviluppare servizi di informazione e consulenza sui temi e i programmi di finanziam

ento europei. Nel contesto attuale, in cui l’Unione europea ha allargato i sui campi di competenza e con essi la loro complessità, il ruolo e la funzione di CBE assume rilevanza prioritaria. Infatti, in un mondo in cui la saturazione informativa ha compromesso il valore stesso delle informazioni, CBE garantisce servizi di qualità grazie alla sua pluriennale esperienza e presenza nel cuore dell’Europa. Nel corso degli anni CBE ha svolto un’intensa attività d’informazione ed assistenza verso gli associati ed i loro clienti, con una moltitudine di interventi su vari temi europei: dall’analisi dei regolamenti europei in materia di concorrenza e aiuti di Stato alle azioni dei Fondi strutturali; dalla consulenza alla partecipazione agli appalti pubblici, all’analisi delle misure di intervento a favore di investimenti in Paesi terzi; dalla divulgazione relativamente alla riforma bancaria post-crisi, alle nuove linee di finanziamento settennali (2014-2020); dalla ricerca di finanziamenti, alla partecipazione ai programmi di ricerca e sviluppo. I principali settori di attività di CBE sono:
- Informazione e assistenza su tematiche e programmi di finanziamento dell’ Unione europea;
- Consulenza e assistenza nella redazione e presentazione di progetti europei;
- Analisi e segnalazione mirata di Gare d’appalto nazionali ed internazionali;
- Formazione su temi specifici di interesse per gli Associati o per i loro clienti;
- Lobbying, organizzazione di incontri e seminari formativi con le Istituzioni europee.

Financial inclusion also means understanding the diversity of the people who use financial services.

As societies become increasingly diverse, financial institutions need to look beyond the idea of an “average customer” and take into account different cultural backgrounds, experiences and needs.

Developing multicultural competence can play an important role in making financial services more inclusive, accessible and responsive to the realities of today’s customers.

This is an important perspective highlighted by our DEIMAN4Finance project, which promotes greater awareness and more inclusive approaches within the financial sector.

A valuable reminder that inclusion starts with understanding the people we aim to serve.

What makes a financial service truly accessible?

Accessibility in financial services goes far beyond physical access to a bank branch. It is about ensuring that people can access information, understand their options and use financial services independently, regardless of their individual needs.

This can mean accessible websites and mobile apps, clear and understandable information, usable ATMs, compatibility with assistive technologies, alternative communication formats and customer support that can respond to different requirements.

In other words, accessibility is not a single feature. It is the result of a range of choices aimed at removing unnecessary barriers throughout the financial experience.

The CODE project supports this broader approach by combining financial education, accessible digital tools and practical guidelines for financial institutions and workplaces, contributing to a more inclusive financial environment.

What does financial independence really mean?

Financial independence is about more than having financial resources. It also means having the knowledge, confidence and tools to understand financial choices and make informed decisions.

Managing income and expenses, planning a budget, saving, comparing financial products and recognising potential risks are all important elements of everyday financial well-being.

For people with disabilities, however, accessing and understanding financial information and services can still be challenging due to physical, digital, communication and institutional barriers.

This is why financial literacy and financial inclusion need to go hand in hand. Access to a financial service is meaningful only when people can understand it, use it and make informed choices.

The CODE project contributes to this goal by combining financial education with accessible digital tools, supporting people with disabilities in managing their finances with greater confidence and independence.

As financial services continue to move online, ensuring that digital banking, payment tools and financial information are accessible to everyone is becoming increasingly important. Inclusive design can help people with different abilities navigate digital services, access information and carry out transactions more independently.

An interesting example comes from the European Central Bank, which is placing accessibility at the centre of the development of the proposed digital euro. The digital euro app is being designed with accessibility features that go beyond the requirements of the European Accessibility Act, taking into account different user needs and levels of digital confidence.

This approach highlights the importance of considering accessibility from the very beginning of the design process, rather than treating it as an additional feature.

This is also closely aligned with the CODE project, which promotes more inclusive and accessible financial services and supports the development of solutions based on inclusive design principles.

Gender equality in finance is not only about representation, it is also about addressing the barriers that continue to affect career progression, pay and leadership opportunities.

Building a more inclusive financial sector requires both awareness and practical skills. Training can play an important role in helping professionals recognise inequalities, understand their causes and contribute to meaningful organisational change.

A more equal financial sector starts with the knowledge and tools to make change happen.

Digitalisation is changing agriculture, but the transition is far from complete.
According to the latest Eurostat data, around 18% of EU farms were using precision farming technologies or practices in 2023. These farms, however, managed approximately 44% of the EU’s utilised agricultural area.

The figures also show that the adoption of other digital technologies remains relatively limited: around 11% of EU farms used farm management information systems, while robotics were used by about 7% of farms.

These figures highlight both the progress already made and the significant potential for further digital transformation in agriculture.
Technologies such as IoT, robotics, drones, data analytics and digital management systems can support more precise and efficient agricultural processes, but their successful adoption also depends on access to the right infrastructure, knowledge and skills.

This is particularly relevant for agricultural supply chains, where digital technologies can contribute to greater efficiency, traceability and connectivity between different actors.

The Asc4inn Project addresses this evolving landscape by focusing on the skills needed to support the digital transformation of agricultural supply chains and by promoting innovative learning opportunities for future professionals.

Digital transformation is not only about adopting new technologies. It is also about developing the skills to use them effectively.

ESG is becoming an increasingly concrete part of the business landscape and education has an important role to play in preparing the professionals who will navigate it.

On 3 July 2026, the European Commission adopted revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), covering environmental, social and governance issues such as climate change, biodiversity and human rights.

The revised standards are intended to make sustainability reporting clearer and less burdensome while maintaining the quality of the information provided to investors and other stakeholders.

This latest development is another reminder that ESG is no longer simply a matter of corporate responsibility. Understanding sustainability impacts, risks, reporting requirements and governance practices is becoming increasingly relevant across a wide range of professional roles.

This is where Higher Education Institutions can make a meaningful contribution: by equipping students and future professionals with the knowledge and practical competences needed to understand and apply ESG principles in real-world contexts.

The Esg4he project supports this vision by promoting the integration of ESG-related knowledge and skills into higher education and by strengthening the connection between academic learning and the evolving needs of organisations.

As ESG frameworks continue to evolve, developing the right competences becomes just as important as understanding the rules themselves.

Accessibility and inclusion are essential elements of a fair and sustainable European society.

Many of the barriers faced by people with disabilities are not inherent to the individual, but are often shaped by the environments, systems and services we create.

Addressing these barriers requires a continued commitment to accessibility, equal opportunities and inclusive design, both in the workplace and across society.

At CBE-GEIE, we are proud to contribute to European projects that promote more inclusive approaches, support participation and help turn accessibility principles into concrete opportunities for everyone.

Inclusion means creating environments where everyone can participate, contribute and thrive.

The green transition is transforming not only the environment, but also the skills and occupations shaping our labour markets.

According to the OECD Employment Outlook 2024, around 20% of workers across OECD countries are employed in green-driven occupations. Importantly, 46% of these jobs are existing occupations whose skill requirements are changing as a result of the transition towards a greener economy.

This highlights an important reality: the green transition is not only about creating new jobs. It is also about updating existing skills and ensuring that workers can access the training needed to adapt to changing professional requirements.

For Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners, ensuring equal access to these learning opportunities is an essential part of making the green transition truly inclusive.

The GreenSkills4Deaf project addresses this challenge by promoting accessible education and training opportunities and supporting DHH learners in developing the green, digital and entrepreneurial skills needed for the evolving labour market.

A successful green transition must be a skills transition and an inclusive one.

Inclusion also means having equal opportunities to participate in the labour market.

According to Eurostat, in 2024 the employment gap between people with and without disabilities in the EU stood at 24 percentage points. Just over 56% of people with disabilities aged 20–64 participated in the labour market, compared with around 84% of people without disabilities.

Beyond employment itself, access to work is closely connected to economic independence, financial autonomy and full participation in society.

These figures highlight the importance of removing barriers and creating more inclusive environments in which people with disabilities can develop their potential and exercise greater control over their economic lives.

Through the CODE project, we are contributing to this broader objective by promoting greater awareness, accessibility and inclusion in the financial sphere.
