On September 30th, our WorkBC centres and virtual employment services will be closed to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The last residential school closed in 1996, but we know that the effects of these institutions are still felt today. This day in particular invites us to reflect on the past and ongoing impacts of residential schools and colonialism, and to consider how we can do better moving forward. It encourages us to remember the children who were taken from their homes and families to attend residential schools and never returned home. And for us to acknowledge the strength and resilience of Survivors, their families and their communities.

We encourage you to use this day to engage in reconciliation work, and to participate in local events that honour truth, healing, and community.

Castlegar Event:

Circle of Indigenous Nations Society (COINS) Memorial Walk

September 30. Starting at 10:30am. Walk leaves from the Sandman Hotel (1944 Columbia Ave, Castlegar) and ends at the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society (COINS) office at 1901 Connors Rd. Hosted by the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society, community members are invited to join a commemorative walk to remember those affected by residential schools. Supporters who prefer not to walk can gather at the COINS office to welcome participants.
