Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, 2,977 lives were tragically lost. Among them were 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others.
Their courage, selflessness, and sacrifice remain a powerful reminder to all first responders who face the unexpected and put their lives on the line each day to protect and serve others.
Today, our thoughts are with the families, friends, colleagues, and communities who continue to carry the loss of those taken on 9/11. We also honour the surviving first responders who continue to face the lasting physical and mental health effects of that day, including respiratory illnesses, cancers, PTSD, and other challenges caused by their service and exposure at Ground Zero. Their ongoing strength and sacrifice must never be forgotten, and they deserve our continued gratitude, support, and care.
We remember. We honour their sacrifice. We stand with the survivors. We will never forget.
