MEET GREG MURPHY
Greg Murphy CET, RSC offers a rare combination of skills to the field of architecture, blending a Master Carpenter’s deep understanding of physical construction with an honours-educated technologist’s design precision.
Born in Halifax into a military family, Greg spent his youth moving across Canada and internationally—including formative years in Australia, Germany, and the Canadian High Arctic. These experiences helped shape his resilient, adaptable approach to building design.
Greg’s career began at 18 as an apprentice carpenter in the Ottawa area. After completing trade school at Nova Scotia Community College, he spent 25 years in southern Ontario as a contractor and Master Carpenter.
Driven by an interest in design, Greg later returned to post-secondary education, graduating with honours from Georgian College’s Architectural Technology program.
He went on to establish his own Architectural Design firm in Clarksburg, Ontario, where he worked for over a decade before returning home to Nova Scotia in 2021.
For the past five years, Greg has been an essential member of RHAD’s senior leadership team. As a Certified Engineering Technologist registered with TechNova, he brings his expertise to the roles of Senior Architectural Technologist, Architectural Designer, and Project Manager.
His RHAD projects include high-end residential work and complex civic and public spaces, including the ongoing development of Project X and the much-loved Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Boat School. He is also RHAD’s go-to technical guru for building envelope details.
Outside the studio, Greg is an outdoor enthusiast with a deep love for the ocean and Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline. A former hockey player and avid golfer, he enjoys packing up his RV with his family and dogs for weekend adventures along the Atlantic Canadian coast.
