We had an incredible two days at the Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) Conference 2026!

The energy has been incredible, with so much curiosity and interest in the work we do, especially our WERC programs and how they meet Albertans where they are while supporting them on their journey toward meaningful employment.

A highlight of the conference was going live on 347 The Juice to talk about the work happening across Ballad and share how businesses and organizations can partner with us to create meaningful opportunities for individuals in their communities.

Our WERC High Level participants recently had the opportunity to tour Boston Pizza and get an inside look at what goes into working in a restaurant! 🍕

Participants explored different roles within the restaurant and gained valuable insight into the day-to-day realities of working in the hospitality industry. Experiences like this provide valuable real-world exposure and help participants build the knowledge and confidence they need to prepare for the workforce.

We’re pleased to welcome the Honourable Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services, to the 2026 WorkFirst Alberta Summit.

Minister Neudorf will be joining us on stage during the Summit and will also attend the Thrive Employer Breakfast, connecting with employers and Alberta’s workforce community.

Last week, we brought our Ballad team from across Alberta together in Edmonton for our largest Annual General Meeting yet, with over 80 people in attendance!

We heard from our leadership team, shared powerful stories from across the company, and reflected on everything we’ve accomplished over the past year. We also heard from team members during a panel discussion focused on the power of relationships and the important role they play in the work we do and the impact we create across Alberta.

We wrapped up the day with an evening social full of celebration, laughter, and connection. It was a great opportunity to spend time together, celebrate the year we’ve had, and look ahead with excitement for what’s to come.

Moments like this are what our WERC program is all about! 🧡

Our WERC Calgary team recently welcomed a former participant back for our weekly Career Conversations, where they shared their journey through the program and into employment.

It was great to see current participants asking questions and hearing firsthand from someone who has been in their shoes. Hearing where their journey has taken them is a meaningful reminder of where hard work and the right support can lead.

“Ballad helped me prepare for my certifications and eventually got a job which allowed me to move into my own apartment. Put in the hard work and work with the [Ballad] staff and guaranteed, you will land a job.”

We’re proud to see former participants reaching their goals and coming back to encourage those who are just getting started.

Our WERC Red Deer participants had the opportunity to visit Krenzler Fabrication and Welding Inc, where they got hands-on experience with Metal Inert Gas welding and learned more about the tools and technology used in the industry.

The group also had the chance to see a CNC plasma cutter in action and learn more about how this equipment is used in fabrication. It was a great opportunity to practise new skills, explore the industry, and learn directly from professionals in the field.
