Water levels in the lower Saint John River remain high, with several areas at flood watch or warning stage. Levels are expected to peak and begin to recede in the coming days.

Gagetown is at the flood stage and will remain there until the weekend.

NBEMO has not received any reports of impacts to homes and business and does not anticipate any in the coming days.

New Brunswickers should remain vigilant and not underestimate the potential for impacts.

Continue to stay off and away from the banks of waterways until there is no longer an increased safety risk.

Effective Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT, Category 2 and 3 open fires and associated equipment and activities will be prohibited across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre including the Tsilhqot'in (Xeni Gwet'in) Declared Title Area.

The prohibitions will remain in place until 12:00 noon on October 31, 2026, or until the orders are rescinded.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The Town of Peace River is cancelling its Flood Alert.

This alert is in no longer in effect for Peace River.

Water flows in the Heart River have decreased but there is still risk of ice jams forming within the boundaries of the town of Peace River.

While there is no longer an imminent risk of flooding at this time, continue to be prepared for changing conditions.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The Town of Peace River has issued a Flood Alert.

There is a potential of flooding of the Heart River and surrounding areas.

Prepare for a possible evacuation on very short notice. Fuel your vehicles, gather important documents, medication, pets, and food and water.

Prepare to be away from home for at least 3 days. No evacuation is required at this time. Avoid the river area.

Speaker Highlight!

With over 35 years of Fire Service experience, Rodney was previously the Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services for the Town of High Level, retiring in 2025. He has over 20 years of senior leadership experience in the north working extensively in Northern Alberta and the NWT. Rodney is currently the owner/operator of Urban Edge Fire Strategies Inc., a fire services consultancy and WUI service provider in Alberta and the NWT.

Rodney brings over 12 years of expertise in Wildland Urban Interface Operations working as a senior Structure Protection Specialist with the Province of Alberta. Rodney has deployed to over 15 incidents in Alberta, BC and the NWT as a Specialist, Branch Director or Group Supervisor and Operations Section Chief in WUI incidents in the last 12 years.

Rodney has worked extensively in the Northwest Territories as an instructor, speaker and responder to major emergencies. He has assisted several fire departments in Northwest Alberta and the NWT in program development as well as leadership development
