I’d like to invite you, family and friends to my upcoming Dinner & Art For A Cause fundraiser supporting the Nanaimo Regional Hospital’s Future Cardiac Cath Lab at the Bold Knight Restaurant Monday, May 25th.

Funds for our important cause are raised from art sales and direct donations at our event.

I chose to support our Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s Future Cardiac Cath Lab because the Victoria General Hospital’s Cardiac Cath Lab saved my father’s life after my father experienced a massive heart attack when he was 57-year-old.

John Vassilopoulos, owner & manager of the Bold Knight restaurant has kindly opened his restaurant on a day his restaurant is not opened with the help of his wonderful staff.

Those who would like to attend just have to make a dinner reservation. We are expecting to sell out our special event.

My wife and event partner, Lisa created the attached poster that has all the information about the fundraiser.

We would deeply appreciate your help promoting the special event.

‘The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition' Update

Well, the story continues…

As of today, I pleased to say that I have a permanent home of the original framed oil painting entitled, 'The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition' (2021).

Thanks to Eric Ricker, son of Dr. William E. Ricker, Andy Thompson, Executive Director of Pacific Biological Station, Dr. Richard Beamich, former scientist who worked with Dr. William E. Ricker and Tyler Zubkowski, Senior Research Technician of the Pacific Biological Station, the special W. E. Ricker framed painting is now hung in special display area off the main front lobby at the Pacific Biological Station.

Tyler first met me over a coffee at the Drip Coffee across the Departure Bay Beach then I met Tyler at the Pacific Biological Station. Tyler let me in to view the framed painting of the ‘The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition'.

We had a colleague of Tyler kindly take a photograph of him and I next to the special framed painting of the CCG W.E. Ricker. I have also included an image of myself next to the framed painting and the framed painting’s write up.

Reach out to me if you’d like a copy of the ‘The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition'. Net proceeds from the sale of art prints will be donated to help students enrolled in VIU Fisheries & Aquaculture program. Fortunately, I still have wood from the CCG W. E. Ricker which can be used to frame art prints. This is a Cause Art Plus project.

The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition' Update

Well, the story continues…

I have the pleasure and honour each year to give a giclee canvas wrapped print of the ‘The W. E. Ricker Begins Another Expedition’ created by me to a VIU student from the Fisheries and Aquaculture degree program who is awarded the William. E. Ricker Memorial Scholarship valued at $2,500.

This year my wife, Lisa and I were invited to the VIU Fisheries & Aquaculture Student Awards Celebration 2026 at the VIU Deep Bay Station last Saturday, April 11th.

This year Emily Palmer was given the special William. E. Ricker Memorial Scholarship by Eric Ricker on behalf of the Ricker family.

After the scholarship was given to Emily Palmer I gave my W. E. Ricker art print to Emily. In the attached photo image Eric Ricker is shown with Emily Palmer and me with the W. E. Ricker print.
