One of the biggest blessings is figuring out, early, that you don’t actually want the life everyone told you to want.

Not everyone gets that clarity young. Some people spend a decade, sometimes two, chasing a version of success that was never actually theirs to begin with. They build the big team, the packed calendar, the “look how busy I am” badge of honor, and only realize years in that none of it feels like what they thought it would.

For me, the blessing was realizing early that I didn’t want to build a business that owned me. I wanted to build systems that gave me my life back, not a bigger version of the same exhaustion.

It didn’t feel like a blessing at the time. Honestly, it felt like confusion. Like I was behind. Like I was doing it “wrong” compared to everyone else who seemed so sure of their path.

Looking back, that confusion is exactly what saved me from spending a decade building the wrong thing. That’s the actual blessing, not having it all figured out, just figuring out early what I didn’t want.

There are two versions of scaling, and from the outside, they look exactly the same.

Version one is scaling on top of chaos. More clients, more revenue, more team members, but the same messy, undocumented processes from day one, just stretched further to cover more ground. It works, for a while. Right up until it doesn’t, because nothing underneath it was ever built to hold more weight. It was just asked to.

Version two is scaling on top of systems. Every new client, every new hire, every new offer gets added to something that’s already documented, tested, and repeatable. Growth doesn’t add more pressure, it adds more capacity.

The tricky part is you usually can’t tell the difference from the outside. Both versions can show the same revenue, the same team size, the same impressive calendar. The difference only shows up later, usually at the worst possible time, like when you try to take time off, or a key team member leaves, or a client asks a question nobody thought to document the answer to.

One version breaks the second you step away. The other barely notices you’re gone.

Scaling isn’t the goal on its own. Scaling that doesn’t require you to personally hold the whole thing together, that’s the actual goal.

Nobody shows the actual process of building a system. They show the result, the clean dashboard, the automated sequence, the business that “just runs.”

Here’s what it actually looks like behind that.

It’s rewriting the same process 3 times, because the first two versions only ever made sense to you, the person who already knew every shortcut. It’s sitting through your own screen recording, pausing every few seconds to explain something you’ve genuinely never had to say out loud before.

It’s the uncomfortable realization, halfway through documenting a task, that you don’t actually have a consistent process. You’ve just been winging it well enough that nobody noticed the gaps.

And it’s the slightly awkward moment you hand someone your “finished” process, and they get stuck in the exact spot you didn’t think to explain, because it was so obvious to you that it never occurred to you someone else wouldn’t know it.

None of that is glamorous. Systems don’t look impressive while you’re building them. They just work once they’re actually done. That’s the whole trade-off, a little unsexy effort now for a lot of ease later.

Most SOPs fail because they’re written like essays. Nobody reads an essay mid-task.

Every SOP in my library follows the same 5 parts:

1️⃣ Prerequisites: what your team needs access to before they start, so no one gets stuck halfway through
2️⃣ Purpose: why this process exists and what it protects your business from
3️⃣ Responsible party: who owns each part, from building it to approving it
4️⃣ Process: clear numbered steps, each broken into short actions
5️⃣ Version update: the date and the name of who last updated it, so your team always knows it’s current

That last one is the part most people skip. An outdated SOP is almost worse than no SOP, because your team follows it with confidence.

If someone can pick it up and finish the task without asking you a single question, it’s a good SOP.

Comment “SOP” I’ll send you the link.

This weekend is about gratitude, and I’m genuinely grateful for every client who trusts me with the behind-the-scenes side of their business. The chaotic inboxes, the half-built processes, the “I don’t even know where this lives” tasks. That trust is never something I take lightly.

And because I care about you and your business, I’ll keep saying it: a long weekend should feel like one. If your business can’t run for a few days without you checking in every hour, that’s not dedication. It’s usually a sign something isn’t documented yet.

So set the out-of-office, trust your team, and enjoy the people at your table today and tomorrow. Everything will still be here Tuesday. 🥧

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians. 🍁

This year, a lot of my gratitude comes back to the same thing: freedom. The freedom to step away, to travel, to rest, and to trust that my business would be okay without me hovering.

That didn’t happen by luck. It happened one system at a time.

What are you most grateful for in your business this year? Tell me below 👇

This one is hard to write, so I’m just going to write it.

To the version of me who couldn’t take a day off:

You checked your phone before your feet even hit the floor. Every single morning. No exceptions.

You thought if you stopped moving for even a day, everything you built would start falling apart around you.

You said yes to things you didn’t have room for, because saying no felt like admitting you weren’t working hard enough.

You told yourself “someday” it would calm down.

Someday never came, because you never built anything that could hold the weight without you standing under it.

I wish I could tell you it gets easier right away.

It doesn’t.

It gets easier once you stop being the only system your business has.

You’re allowed to rest before you’re completely exhausted.

You’re allowed to build something that doesn’t require you to be in pain to prove that it works.

And if you’re still in that season right now, you don’t have to wait until you’re completely burned out to start changing it.

You can start building a business that supports your life, too.

If you feel like the bottleneck in your own business, you are not lazy and you are not bad at delegating. You are probably just missing the systems that let other people make decisions the way you would.

Here are 3 signs it is happening and the actual fix for each one.

Comment “SOP” to get the exact systems that fixed this for me.

It’s easy to measure success by the number. I did that for a long time too.

But the moments I’m actually proud of are quieter than that — the day off that stayed off, the client who stopped needing me for the small stuff, the version of me who finally wrote things down instead of carrying it all silently.

That’s the success I actually want more of. 🫶

Growth should feel lighter, not heavier. If it doesn’t, something in your systems is missing. 🫶
