The days of the administrative assistant who answers all incoming calls is quickly fading. Mobile phones and telephone systems reach deep into every organization and disrupt these kinds of structures. Today’s workflows resemble more self-employed small business than the large organized structures of the past.
It’s not surprising then, that technologies like Find-me-follow-me and call Call-twinning are so popular among small and medium sized businesses. These technologies permit callers to locate the person they are calling for with little or no complication.
In the call twinning scenario a company executive may have a phone on their desk at the office, one at their home office, and another (in the form of a cell phone) in their pocket. When a caller calls the main company number and enters the executive’s extension all three phones ring simultaneously. The receiver picks up the desired phone and the call begins without the caller having to do anything. This zero touch solution is the easiest to implement and simplest for the caller.
The Find-me-follow-me technology is a little more involved but still produces impressive results. Callers will hear a ring after dialing the initial extension, then depending on the configuration they maybe asked if they want to leave a message or stay on the line to while the system hunts for the proper way to reach the owner of the extension.
So the next time that prized lead calls your company where do you want the call to terminate? Do you want to it to end with a cold voicemail greeting or do you want to be able to pick up the call wherever you are?
