Hi Liz,

Mt. Warburton provides the primary connection for service on Mt. Warburton and Mt. Tuam. During last weeks storm, the link did not recover from the outage. Thanks to your initiative, we got a climber from Galiano to spend the day on Saltspring climbing the tower on Mt. Bruce. I spent hours with him trying to restore the link. The conclusion was that the issue must be on Saturna. Sean returned from Spring break yesterday, and spent the better part of today, first verifying all the equipment was functioning, and then climbing 275’ up the tower to see if there was any alignment issues on the tower. I worked with him all afternoon trying to restore the link.

The conclusion is that there must be physical failure on one side or the other - not the radios themselves, rather the actual antenna. I have ordered two new large antenna and radios for good measure. I should have them by Wednesday and will take them to Saltspring. I will assemble, configure, and ship one to Sean directly Thursday morning by boat with Paul Sinclair. The second will be for Mt. Bruce, which I will install at the same time as Sean installs Warburton. That will eliminate all of the variables at play.

Sean is investigating if he has some smaller dishes on hand on Saturna. If so, he will see about installing the smaller dish/radio to get some connectivity back in place earlier. But no guarantees.

Thanks,

Sig

Warburton Update
A note from Sig

Sean spent all morning on Warburton. At first we verified all of the devices were up an running. They recovered from the outage and there is no evidence that there was any issue. So then Sean went up the tower. Again no obvious issues. Of course Mt Bruce was socked in. Still we tested a number of options. Frankly, I can’t tell you what’s wrong. I’ve ordered two new dishes for both Islands. I should have my hands on them later tomorrow. I need to get 2 new AirFiber radios - just to be sure. And I’ll have Paul Sinclair bring one dish to Saturna, and I’ll replace the dish on Mt. Bruce. I can’t tell you more, other than the radio were damaged in the wind. There is not clear and obvious fault - just doesn’t work. Sean is going to try and put a temporary smaller dish up tomorrow, in hopes that it’s just the Saturna side. So, 1) hoping to get a temporary configuration up and running, 2) the link will be replaced on Thursday.

Warburton Update
Our tower climber. will be arriving at. MT Bruce. at. 2pm
We hope to have service. restored by. 3/4 ppm
As we don't believe the issue it on the Warburton side
Our tower climber is on standby in case we need to go up on the Warburton side which would. be the worst case scenario.

Thank you

For those connected to Warburton ,Saturna

The best we can identify at this time is that the wind storm knocked one of the radios out of alignment.

We are trying to coordinate someone on site.

Sig

Good Morning

Here is the explanation from Sig my brother who is the owner of Beacon
We had an issue on our side which took us by surprise and was quite the task to figure it out
It took us a few tries yesterday , this is why there were connection issues.

Here is Sig's explanation

I upgraded the software on a router on Mt. Bruce yesterday. It caused the router to “seize up” for lack of better explanation. It took a while to figure what was causing the problems. Then this morning it had recurred, so I downgraded the software to the previous version over the past hour. Just need the network links to rebalance and it will be back to normal.

Sorry. Certainly not an advertised feature of the upgrade.

Sig
