Happy National Pen Pal Day!

L.M. Montgomery had pen pals for 40+ years. No wifi required.

An Alberta schoolteacher. A Scottish journalist. Both people she wrote to, faithfully, for decades.

Montgomery's pen pal friendships with Ephraim Weber and George Boyd MacMillan were her window to a world beyond — proof that a letter can cross any distance.

Yes! The Musical, "The Blue Castle" is Coming to the Historic Leaskdale Church!💙

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of L.M. Montgomery’s beloved 1926 romance, The LMMSO & Ryleepuss Productions are pleased to present an original musical production of "The Blue Castle".
This enchanting story follows Valancy Stirling, a “plain Jane” trapped by a stifling family and a life of “should-nots.” After receiving life-altering news,Valancy courageously decides to live on her own terms, finding adventure, friendship and an unexpected, rebellious love, in the Ontario wilderness. Heartfelt, humorous, and soaring with melody, this production honours Montgomery’s most mature love story, and reminds us it’s never too late to seek out a “Blue Castle” of our dreams.

Registration for the L.M. Montgomery Institute’s 17th Biennial International Conference, "L.M. Montgomery and Change" is open through Wednesday, June 17th!

In addition to experiencing all of the engaging papers and presentations at the conference itself, you're invited to register for some exciting (in-person) pre-conference Workshops:

👩‍🏫📚"In the Classroom and Beyond: Teaching L.M. Montgomery in the Twenty-First Century"
What does it mean to teach L.M. Montgomery in the twenty-first century? The workshop will engage with how changing contexts—in terms of technology, digital media, remote work and communication, student expectations, the state of the humanities and academia—are transforming what the Montgomery classroom, teacher, and learning look like in 2026. Hosted by LMMI partners and friends!

and/or

✍️✨ "Writing About L.M. Montgomery During a Time of Cultural, Political, and Social Transition"--
Led by members of the LMMI's EDI committee--including Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, Jean Mitchell, and Melanie Fishbane--this workshop will encourage aspiring and experienced writers to workshop pieces they have written on Montgomery’s works from a cultural, political, or social perspective. This is open to all, including people who have not written in this way before, or are thinking about writing on this topic, or people who want to learn how to reframe Montgomery’s works from a more diverse perspective.

Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, and they are a great way to meet other attendees and kick off your conference experience!

📲 Registration information is all here on our conference page: https://lmmontgomery.ca/upcoming-conference/2026-l-m-montgomery-and-change/

So great to see another generation of Maud fans (and potential scholars) awarded for excellence.

Congrats Sophie and Sadie!

Maud and Ewan’s gravesite is receiving a makeover. The cedar trees surrounding the gravestone have been removed as work begins to refresh and care for the site for future generations of visitors.
It is certainly a change for those of us used to seeing the cedars there, but the space is being lovingly maintained❤️
