It goes through peaks and troughs.
Maybe you know how I feel.

One thing that always helps me is to look back over feedback from my clients since the early days of 2020.

When I reflect on my business retreat feedback it never fails to amaze me.

How lucky am I that I get to gather the most incredible service providers together on their business retreats and see them flourish afterwards 🙏
Big decisions made, clarity gained and a renewed momentum that changes the game.

I just *get* service based businesses.
Their complexities, scaling issues and financial models, and my client results truly speak for themselves.
Far better than I can articulate.

From studying Lean Managament whilst breastfeeding a newborn to winning awards and hosting in-demand business retreats where I now live on the Costa Blanca, it makes me feel huge pride and incredible delight to see my clients develop their businesses not only in standard metrics like revenue + client numbers..... but in a way that allows them to feel successful, aligned and like a true CEO of their personal empire.

And take some bloody time off whilst they do it.

I know you're drooling over beautiful venues, but retreats are never just about the venue, a bit of good food and a meticulous itinerary.
Truly, they are commercial offers with real responsibilities attached for you as the host.

I recently joined Holly Porter on her podcast to talk about something I think the retreat industry needs much more of: compliance, operational standards and commercially sensible retreat planning.

We spoke about venue deposits, contracts, insurance, cancellation policies, international logistics and the decisions retreat hosts cannot afford to leave until the last minute.

Hosting retreats should never feel frightening, but if retreats are going to become a serious revenue stream for you in your business, they need to be treated like one.

I’m also really pleased to share that I’m now a founding member of the International Retreat Association, which has launched to raise standards across the retreat industry- more to come on that soon.

This conversation matters because the retreat space is growing quickly, but the advice around it is still often too vague, too casual or too disconnected from the real responsibilities hosts take on.

I believe that retreats should be profitable, protected and properly thought through, as well as being enjoyable to bring to life and seve your clients on a deeper level.

No sales.

You’ve started with the wrong thing❌

You’ve found the villa, you’re planning the schedule; visualising those sessions and how amazing your clients will be feeling, WOW you’ve even started posting about it…and you’re wondering why bookings feel slow.

But this is it, right? This is how you host a brand-building retreat, what else is there to do?

Nah, what ACTUALLY makes a retreat sell out happens before any of that even happens.
It's quiet, behind the scenes, nestled in the decisions you’re making early on (but you've already skipped over because the venue is FAR too exciting).

I have heard too many times incredible women saying that they have '2 people asking when the retreat is' but hold ZERO waitlist, ZERO audience, ZERO launch plan.

And then they wonder why there's no traction. No enquiries. No profit. No point.

And then I find out that they canceled the retreat completely.

You don't want to do that, you're already running a business and that would be damaging to your reputation and a total waste of time.

So let's dive in with the first 2 things to sell-out your retreat:

1. Get painfully clear on who the retreat is for. It may not even be right for those 2 ex-clients who are currently asking for a retreat. Seriously, don't screw up this foundational aspect.

2. Decide what you’re actually selling. It's not a holiday. If you're not comfortable talking about a result, transformation of outcome of the retreat then don't continue until you are. You will not successfully sell-out your retreat without being 100% sure what you are offering. It doesn't need to be HUGE but it does need to be clear.

On paper, everything looked “ready”. She had a sales page, payment link and had been posting on Instagram.
But underneath that… she was feeling totally stuck with sales.

In reality, a lot of good retreat marketing that I see is actually overcoming:
- fear of visibility + showing up as you
- lack of clarity + transformation
- inconsistent messaging
- trying to appeal to all of your current audience for your specific retreat offer
- waiting until 2 months out to promote your retreat (spoiler alert, you need to add 10 months to that)

POSITIONING + TIMELINE ARE EVERYTHING✅
