“Frequent feeding intervals are the most effective way to prevent and manage gastric issues in horses while also supporting their overall wellbeing.”
- Anne Sjöblom, equine veterinarian specialized in equine diseases

Horses are designed to eat small amounts throughout the day and night, which is why long feeding intervals are not natural for them. Many stables have noticed clear improvements in their horses’ condition, behaviour, and daily routines after switching to more frequent hay feeding.

With Heinätin, frequent hay feeding can be managed easily and consistently — without increasing the workload 🙌

We build better stable life – for horses and people.

The Heinätin automatic hay feeding story began in 2013, when the first hay feeder was developed in our family business. Today, Heinätin has grown into a full product family, with resellers in five different countries. Our feeders have been shipped around the world—from the USA and Iceland all the way to Abu Dhabi.

All our products are manufactured in our own workshop in Pinsiö, Finland 🇫🇮 using Finnish components as much as possible. Our work is guided by quality, responsibility, and a desire to do things better. We have been awarded the Key Flag Symbol and the Strongest in Finland GOLD certificate.

Our values are visible in everyday work:
• Integrity – we act honestly, take responsibility, and build sustainably
• Reciprocity – we support our customers even after the purchase
• Originality – we design and develop our solutions ourselves, with safety first
• Agility – we find solutions and continuously develop better ways of working

For us, it’s not just about products, but the bigger picture: the well-being of horses, smoother daily routines, and supporting people’s endurance.

If you’re looking for an easier daily routine, get in touch 🌸 link in bio 🌸

🐴 A horse’s stomach can’t handle long feeding gaps

Equine disease specialist Anne Sjöholm chose Heinätin® hay dispensers for her own horses after seeing too many cases of gastric ulcers. In many barns, evening hay is given around 5 p.m. and the next feeding isn’t until 7 a.m. — that’s up to a 14-hour gap without food.

👉 The optimal feeding interval for horses is every 3–4 hours. Without continuous protection from saliva and forage, stomach acid can damage the stomach lining and lead to ulcers.
✔️ Up to 9 out of 10 sport horses have some degree of gastric ulcers
✔️ Symptoms are not always visible
✔️ Regular forage feeding supports both well-being and performance

🐎 With Heinätin® hay dispensers, feeding can be scheduled in small portions — even during the night — following the horse’s natural rhythm.

💬 “Frequent feeding intervals are the most effective way to prevent and treat stomach issues in horses and ensure overall well-being,” says Anne Sjöholm.

Stable cleaning is one of those tasks that can feel never-ending. 🧹😮‍💨

With Heinätin hay feeders, you can distribute all of the day’s hay portions at once — which means significantly less mess to clean up. No hay scattered along the aisles, and no need to sweep multiple times a day. 🙏🏻

By feeding hay in properly portioned amounts at regular intervals, hay waste is also greatly reduced.

Small everyday improvements can feel surprisingly big when they make life easier day after day — while saving both time and money. 😎🐎

📉 On our website, you’ll find a calculator where you can easily determine how much time and labor costs you could save by using Heinätin automatic hay feeders and adjusting your stable routines accordingly.

💁🏼‍♀️ For example: distributing all the hay for the day at once, sweeping the aisles only once a day, entering the stable an hour later in the morning, and leaving an hour earlier in the evening. In the calculator the time saved is 5 min/day/horse. Almost all stables have achieved at least savings of 8-13 minutes per horse per day.

Calculate how much you would save and how quickly the equipment will pay for itself! 🤝
