👋 How easy is it for customers to find their way around your business?

A customer's experience starts before they speak to a member of staff. From finding the right entrance and knowing where to park, to locating reception, a showroom or a collection point, clear signage can make all the difference.

When visitors have to guess where to go, it can create unnecessary frustration for them and interruptions for your team.

Well-planned signage can help you:

✅ Make entrances and customer parking easy to identify
✅ Direct visitors to reception and the right departments
✅ Simplify collections and deliveries
✅ Reduce repeated questions and interruptions for staff
✅ Create a more organised, professional first impression

It's not about putting signs everywhere. It's about providing the right information at the right time.

Our latest article explores how effective information and directional signage can improve the customer journey and make your premises easier to navigate.

Do you need a 'Mud on Road' sign?

October marks the peak of harvest activity for many UK farms. Agricultural vehicles such as tractors, combine harvesters, and trailers move frequently between fields and public roads, often carrying soil and debris with them.

This seasonal uptick in traffic can leave rural roads slick with mud, posing a hazard to unsuspecting motorists. Visibility, traction, and braking distances can all be compromised, especially in wet weather.

The MUD ON ROAD sign plays a vital role in alerting drivers to these changing conditions, helping prevent accidents and encouraging caution.

🎾 Is padel the latest farm diversification trend?

If you've noticed shiny new padel courts appearing in places you wouldn't necessarily expect them, you're not imagining it!

Padel is booming in the UK, with participation now exceeding one million players. And for farmers and rural landowners looking for new ways to diversify, those courts could represent an interesting opportunity.

But building the courts is only part of the job. A new padel venue also needs to work as a business, with clear parking, wayfinding, court rules, facility signs, safety information and plenty of opportunities to carry the venue's branding throughout the site.

That's where bespoke padel court signage comes in.

We've taken a look at why padel is growing so quickly, why it's attracted interest from rural businesses and the types of signs a new facility might need.

Are we seeing the next big thing in farm diversification? 👀

Some great advice here for those managing water hazards 🛟🌊

Does your organisation manage a site containing a pond, lake, river, watercourse or sustainable drainage feature?

Responsibility for water safety extends beyond putting up signs or installing rescue equipment. Duty holders need to understand the risks present, apply proportionate controls and document how decisions have been reached.

In our latest article, RoSPA Water & Leisure Consultant Reggie Robinson and Head of Policy Carlene McAvoy examine:
• The criminal and civil law affecting managed sites
• Occupiers’ liability across the UK
• Responsibilities when sites change ownership or management
• The management of sustainable drainage systems
• The role of signage and public rescue equipment
• Why risk assessments and documented decisions matter

With an average of 282 accidental water-related fatalities recorded each year in the UK, proactive and evidence-led risk management remains essential.

October is in the UK, making it a good time to think about smoking and the importance of clear smoke-free policies. 🚭🚭🚭🚭

For businesses and organisations, those policies need to be communicated throughout the year. A traditional No Smoking sign remains instantly recognisable, but with va**ng now commonplace, it may also be important to make it clear whether va**ng is permitted.

Our latest article looks at the different 🚭No Smoking and No Smoking or Va**ng signs 🚭available, where they can be used and how clear signage can also support fire safety in workplaces and other environments.🔥

Great advice!

This week is a timely reminder to check your fire doors. 🔥🚪⚠

Fire Door Safety Week is happening now: 21–25 September 2026.

If you’re a duty holder, building owner, landlord or facilities manager, here are five quick fire door checks you can carry out today:

1. Check the gaps
There should be gaps under 4mm at the top and sides of the door.

2. Inspect the intumescent seals
Make sure they are intact, continuous and undamaged.

3. Check the hinges
There should be three or more hinges, with no missing or loose screws.

4. Test the self-closer
The door should close and latch firmly without sticking.

5. Look for the certification label
Make sure a visible certification label or plug is present.

Save this checklist and use it during your next walkaround. ✅

A quick visual check is useful, but it cannot identify every defect. FD Check Ltd carries out annual and 3-monthly statutory fire door inspections, with full documentation for Fire Risk Assessments.
