๐จ๐ฅ Fire Door Holdbacks & Free-Swing Closers โ Lichfield Care Home ๐ฅ๐จ
Another challenging installation completed at this plush care home in Lichfield ๐ก๐ง
We installed holdbacks and free-setting closers, mounted both internally and externally to suit the existing door frames, ensuring the installation worked with the building rather than against it. ๐ชโ
This was a live care home, which brings its own set of challenges. ๐ต๐ดโค๏ธ Working around residents, staff and day-to-day operations meant careful planning, coordination and keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.
๐ Concealed wiring was a key part of the installation.
All doors were wired with cabling carefully concealed above solid ceilings and behind coving, maintaining the high-quality finish expected on such a plush site. In some areas, we even had to remove light fittings and other fixtures to achieve the required cable routes while keeping everything neat and discreet. ๐โจ
๐ฅ Fire alarm integration is critical.
The door circuits are linked directly into the fire alarm system, meaning that in a fire condition the holdbacks release and the doors can close as intended. This is a vital part of maintaining the buildingโs fire strategy โ helping to prevent fire and smoke from spreading through the premises and protecting residents, staff and emergency escape routes. ๐จ๐ช
๐ This is also why proper door surveys and Fire Risk Assessments are so important.
Every building is different, and every door can present its own requirements. A thorough survey helps identify the correct hardware, fixing methods, door/frame construction, wiring routes and interfaces with existing systems. A Fire Risk Assessment then considers how those doors form part of the wider fire safety strategy.
Especially in a care home, where residents may be vulnerable or require assistance to evacuate, getting the details right really matters. โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
Another job where the finished result looks simple โ but a lot of planning, problem-solving and careful installation goes on behind the scenes. ๐ช๐ ๏ธ
