Fuel Storage Solutions Limited (‘FSS’) concentrates on all aspects of fuel storage for diesel and oil. We supply, remove, service and install fuel storage tanks, pipework and ancillary items, and fuelling systems. We also offer full OFTEC approved, fuel storage tank inspections, integrity testing, and cleaning services. Inspections are conducted on the basis of current fuel regulations . FSS is a

company dedicated to the safe storage and use of liquid fuel. Whatever the type of fuel (including bio fuels, waste oil or LPG), we ensure that the product is stored and maintained safely and in line with the relevant, current regulatory requirements. We have an established reputation and experience within the commercial fuel tank market having assessed and installed fuel storage tanks for several Blue Chip companies in the UK.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign, held from the first Monday in June, that celebrates and recognises the invaluable contributions of volunteers.

We've always encouraged our team to get involved in volunteering, and our recent and ongoing support of the Brontë Birthplace is a wonderful example of this commitment in action.

Now that the House has reopened as a cultural centre, we'd like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers whose dedication, hard work and enthusiasm make it possible. We're especially proud that Katharine continues to contribute her time and expertise as Chair of the Trustees.

The Birthplace is a fantastic example of how Volunteers’ Week helps foster connections between national organisations and grassroots groups, celebrating the spirit of volunteering that strengthens and enriches communities year after year.

FSS Senior Engineer features in Facilities Management Journal.

Celebrating 20 years in his role with us we are proud to showcase once again Stuart’s ability, dedication and empathy as a person. Stuart officially started as a Field Engineer in March 2006 and was one of the company’s first full time employees since the business started in 2002. However, his long and productive career in the fuel storage industry actually goes back 27 successful years. His contribution to our business is hard to measure and long may it continue!

May is Local and Community History Month!

“The aim of the month is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general within the local community, and encourage all members of the community to participate.”

As a business, we are proud to have supported a wonderful local historical initiative right on our doorstep in Thornton Village.
The Brontë Birthplace - where Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë were born in front of the parlour fireplace - has now been saved from dereliction and is officially in public ownership for the first time in its 200-year history.

We are incredibly proud to have been one of the first corporate sponsors, working alongside local organisations and volunteers to raise awareness of this important historical landmark. Katharine Barnett also became a member of the Board of Governors, further helping to raise the profile of this significant heritage site. The visit from HRH Queen Camilla last year, as part of Bradford’s City of Culture programme, was simply the cherry on the cake.

Today, the Birthplace is a thriving hub for culture, coffee and literary exchange, and so much has been achieved since its reopening.

Today is National Rescue Dog Day - a day to celebrate rescue dogs while also raising awareness of the many shelter animals still waiting for loving homes. It’s all about highlighting the joy these dogs bring to families and promoting the important message: adopt, don’t shop.

We fully support this cause and proudly donate each year to Linbee Dog Rehoming Charity https://linbee.co.uk- a fantastic organisation that works tirelessly to find new homes for dogs that have been neglected or abandoned.

As a dog (and cat!) friendly business, we’re proud to recognise this special day. Our own dogs, Crumpet and Lily, are woofing in agreement! 🐶🐾

Celebrating Jodie Tomlinson’s 3rd Work Anniversary at Fuel Storage Solutions – Congratulations!

After spending her first year as a Sales Contract Administrator, supporting the day-to-day activities of the department, Jodie’s potential quickly became evident. Last year, she was selected to become Fuel Storage Solutions first Business Administration Apprentice - an exciting milestone for both Jodie and the business.

Since then, she has continued to play a supportive yet vital role in helping the business run smoothly behind the scenes. Jodie has quickly mastered the importance of the finer details, recognising how even small day-to-day tasks can make a significant impact on keeping operations organised, efficient, and running seamlessly.
Her dedication to detail allows senior staff to focus on higher-level decisions while supporting the FSS commitment to “Quality in everything we do.”

Jodie sums up her role perfectly:
“Overall, I see my role as one that contributes by supporting change, using my developing knowledge of each department to improve daily operations and helping the everyday running of the business. Even though I am still learning, I feel as though my work is adding value - and that motivates me to keep developing and growing in my role.”

Mental Health Awareness Week 11-17 May

Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has led Mental Health Awareness Week, bringing people across the UK together to focus on achieving and maintaining good mental health. Every May, millions of people from all walks of life take part in raising awareness and supporting one another.

Here at Fuel Storage Solutions, supporting the wellbeing of our team is a priority. We are fortunate to have an in-house Mental Health First Aider, Mel Alders, whose day-to-day role is within our Finance Team.

Mel volunteered for the role and completed a two-day training course, giving her a greater understanding of the complexities surrounding mental health. As well as offering a listening ear, she can help guide colleagues towards additional support — from courses designed to strengthen coping mechanisms to professional organisations equipped to help with specific situations.

Our support of Mental Health Awareness Week reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and caring workplace for all.

Congratulations to Karen Gorman on her 12th Work Anniversary at FSS

We are delighted to congratulate Karen Gorman on reaching this incredible milestone with FSS, having joined the business on 6th May 2014.

Over the past decade, Karen has become an integral part of the company and a highly valued member of the team. In her current role as Operations Manager, she plays a vital role in overseeing the successful delivery of our services and products across the UK. Working closely with multiple departments throughout Fuel Storage Solutions Karen helps ensure projects and operations run smoothly, efficiently and to the highest possible standard.

Karen’s commitment to excellence is reflected in her ongoing contribution to our quality standards and our company pledge that “Quality is at the heart of everything we do.” Her professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail continue to make a significant impact across the business.

Karen’s journey with FSS is also a fantastic example of dedication, growth, and progression. Starting with the company as a Receptionist/Administrator, she developed a truly well-rounded understanding of the business by working across a variety of departments, including Finance, Sales, Health & Safety, HR, and Operations. This breadth of experience has helped shape the knowledgeable and capable leader she is today.

A different kind of storage here at FSS!

We are proud to support the Yorkshire-based charity The Clothing Bank and the incredible work they do within the community.

To help maximise our support, we have offered dedicated storage space for the clothing they collect. We have allocated a specific area at Marin House, making it easy for Kate and Susan from The Clothing Bank to manage drop-offs and collections efficiently.

The work this charity carries out is truly amazing — providing clothing to people and families who are struggling. Operating in a similar way to a food bank, their mission is to tackle clothing poverty and ensure essential items reach those most in need.

FSS is 24 years old!

We celebrated this milestone with the team on 1st April! As Katharine Barnett remarked: “I am not sure how 24 years has crept up on us but here we are. The World has changed a lot in those 24 years, personally and in general, and Fuel Storage Solutions Limited has changed in many, many ways in that time too. From a tiny room in our home in 2002 to our Head Office in Thornton and almost 40 people in the team, some massive changes!”

As we move into our next financial year we are going to see even more changes and developments. Exciting times continue! Our focus in April has been driven by:

KEEPING THE FUEL IN YOUR TANKS CLEAN: How clean is the fuel in your tanks? An issue that’s especially critical in the current climate of high oil and diesel prices. With no clear sign of easing, protecting your fuel has never been more critical. Every litre lost to degradation is money wasted - and entirely preventable. FSS fuel polishing services restore degraded fuel to BS4406 – 18/16/13 standards, protecting quality, extending lifespan and avoiding unnecessary replacement costs.

STRENGTHENING OUR HQ TEAM: The recruitment drive continues – hiring an additional Technical Sales Manager plus a Sales Administrator – to further improve our service provision.

In addition, we highlighted 2 work anniversaries: Lisa Webster our Operations Supervisor has achieved 7 years in the business and Callum Quirk 2 years in the Engineering Team.
