Another job ticked off this week , a tidy little lean‑to re‑roof in Queensbury 📍

The original roof dated back to the 1940s, and to be fair, it’s done well to last this long. But it was showing its age with sagging timbers, slipped slates and tired leadwork.

🪚🔨 What we did:
• Stripped the full roof and salvaged all reusable slates and copings
• Installed new 75×75mm treated timbers to replace the sagging/split timber
• Laid 300 mm insulation for a warmer, more efficient space
• Fitted new breathable felt and 25×50mm battens
• Re‑slated the roof with new leadwork throughout

And keep an eye out for our lead‑cast butterfly 🦋 a little detail we love adding to jobs like this.

Completed front L-section re-roof on this property ✅🔨

For this job, we removed the existing solar panels and stripped the front L-section right back before re-roofing it with new breathable felt, graded battens and new artificial slates.

The ridge and edge details were then finished off to leave the section neat, secure and fully weather-tight 🌧️

This was a good example of how a reroof is about more than just the outer covering. Once everything is stripped back, it gives the chance to renew the full build-up properly and leave the roof section ready for the years ahead.

A tidy result on this one and a solid improvement all round 👌

How do you know when a roof may be ready for replacement? 👀

It is not always one big obvious problem. Often it is a mix of ageing tiles, worn underlay, tired ridge details, failing verge edges or roofline boards that have seen better days.

On this upcoming project, the planned work includes a full re-roof with new grey Double Roman tiles, breathable felt, battens, eaves trays, dry ridge, dry verge, and replacement fascia and soffit boards to the gables ✅

That is the sort of work that becomes worth considering when the existing roof is starting to show its age in more than one area.

A tidy roofline repair completed on this property ✅

For this job, we stripped out the bottom metre of slates along the eaves, fitted new eaves trays, re-slated the worked section and sealed the gutter joints to help keep everything running properly.

Jobs like this might not look as dramatic as a full reroof, but they are important. The eaves line does a lot of work when it comes to shedding water into the guttering, and if that detail starts to fail it can lead to bigger issues later on 🌧️

By carrying out the repair properly and tying the slates back in neatly, the roof edge is left looking smarter and performing as it should.

Not every roofing job is a full reroof 🔨

Sometimes it is the smaller repair work that makes all the difference ✅

On this property, we installed a new dry ridge system to the main roof, repaired the porch roof, re-bedded the porch ridge, re-sealed the lead flashing and patched a cracked area of render next to the window.

Individually, each issue might seem minor, but together they can all affect how well the property stands up to the weather 🌧️

Keeping on top of slipped tiles, tired mortar, ageing ridge details, leadwork and cracked render can help prevent more costly repairs later on.

Chimney stack issues like this should never be ignored ⚠️

This stack appears to be heavily cracked and deteriorated, with movement through the masonry and clear signs that it has seen better days.

For this job, the plan is to carefully dismantle the chimney stack down below roof level and then make good both roof elevations to suit the existing coverings. The rear slope is to be slated through, the front slope tiled through, and the ridge made good to leave the area weather-tight.

Jobs like this are a good reminder that older chimneys can become a real risk if left too long, especially where the masonry has started to break down.

Dormer re-cladding and roof renewal completed ✅

A great transformation on this one.
For this job, we stripped back the rear roof area below the dormer, renewed the felt and battens, and reinstated the tiles to leave the roof section secure and weather-tight.

We also removed the old dormer cladding, re-insulated with 25mm PIR boards and re-boarded the dormer, fitted new black cladding, and renewed the lead flashing around the dormer for a neat, durable finish.

It’s a good example of how roofing work is not just about the final look. The felt, battens, insulation, boarding and leadwork underneath all play a big part in protecting the property properly.

Really pleased with how this one turned out 👌

Spot the problem 👀

These stains were a sign that water was getting in from outside 🌧️

The issue was around the lead flashing detail where the roof meets the wall. When this starts to fail, water can track in and show up inside as damp patches, ceiling stains and wall marks.

Small roofing problems like this can quickly turn into bigger repairs if left too long.
