I've spent the last few fabulous days on a business retreat with Libby Knight - Strength and Wellness Mindset Coach and Jane Mucklow | Kent landscapes in a beautiful barn conversion in Suffolk. We've worked hard on our businesses and got lots done, but also had some relaxing downtime and eaten too much lovely food! Back to the grindstone now... 😂

This is my set up in my home office, which I love, and the window looks over my garden.

Its a little messy, but also organised so I know where everything is - which sums me up!

Hi, I’m Karen and I thought it was probably time for a little re introduction 👋

I’m a married mum of two adult daughters and I live in Burnham on Crouch in Essex. I really value balance, real conversations, and building a life and business that work together, not against each other.

I’m a Virtual Assistant and have been running my business, KB Virtual Services, since 2015, helping small business owners get their time and headspace back. I know how overwhelming it can feel when your admin keeps growing and your to do list never seems to shrink.

That’s where I come in, taking care of the day to day bits so you can focus on growing your business without feeling constantly pulled in a million directions. I’m very much about creating breathing space, clarity, and calm, not just ticking tasks off a list ✨

A little update for 2025… and rolling into 2026!

I’ve recently added travel planning and booking into what I do, and I’m absolutely loving it.
Whether it’s a weekend away, a family holiday, or something a bit more special, I can now search, plan and book your trips in the UK or abroad.

And here’s something most people don’t realise: you don’t have to get me to book it for you. If you like organising your own holidays, I can set you up with your own booking portal so you can do it yourself and still benefit from it.

This all ties in nicely with my VA business and Tropic too.
Basically…
I can help you save time (VA), so you can book a holiday (Travel), and make sure you’ve got your sun lotion sorted (Tropic)! 😂

So however you like to do things:
“Can you sort it all for me?”
or
“I prefer doing it myself.”

Hi all - how's your week been? Are you very glad it's Friday? And will you be having the next three days off or will you be working?

I've had a really productive week and got lots done, plus caught up with a couple of fab people on Zoom and in real life too - so a quick thank you to Julie Cameron for the very chatty 1-2-1 (we really could talk for hours!) and a great lunch with Melanie Poole (again, we could chat for hours!)

Also, had some great online sessions with Shelley Bosworth too within her 'Courageous Me Collective' membership - by the way, she's doing a 3 day mindset challenge which you have to check out! I'll pop the link in the comments.

I have a few new followers here so thought it would be a good time to introduce myself again.

I'm Karen Broughton, married for 30 years, a mother to two adult daughters and have lived in London and Essex all my life. We now live in Burnham on Crouch where I run my business from my home office.

I have been employed and self employed in various roles in over 40 years of working. My experience is in many areas, including admin, procurement, insurance, sales and training; gaining the majority of my knowledge from being employed in the head office of a well known major retailer for over 21 years.

I launched KB Virtual Services in August 2015, but prior to that, the previous five years of being self employed, I was running my own franchise branch of a Nanny Agency and then working with an Insurance Broker. During this time I began networking and meeting other business owners in and around Essex. This helped to develop my idea of setting up my own business and offering my various office skills to individuals and small businesses as a Virtual Admin Assistant.

I enjoy helping others to free up their time so they can work on their businesses instead of getting stuck in their admin. I love to learn new skills and packages so I can take control of certain tasks for my clients, so they don’t have to worry.

As a business owner, especially if you're on your own or there are just a couple of you in your business, you tend to wear all the hats needed.

Maybe there is a 'little job' that only takes you 15 minutes per day, but that's 5 hours per month that you've spent on something when you could be spending that elsewhere? That could be getting yourself another client, honing your skills or even relaxing!

That 'little job' could be given to someone like me to do for you, and you then know it's done regularly and on time, and frees up your time!

Boundaries... do you set them at work?

I do... but how does that benefit you as a client?

One of my main boundaries is only working during the day on weekdays... evenings and weekends are mine. I believe this benefits both myself and my clients as they know when I will respond to anything and also when they can get hold of me, if required.
It also means I'm not glued to my mobile or desk at all times and can be fresh and on the ball when I am!

Will you be working this weekend? Doing some 'stuff' that you don't want to do, that needs doing but you just never have the time?

So many times clients have said to me "Oh it's a boring job, you won't want to do it" or "It won't take long, I just can't face it and you probably won't want it" - but to be honest, even if it is a 'boring' job in your eyes, if it means it gets done, surely it's worth asking me? I don't mind doing the admin jobs you probably hate!
