Of RMS Titanic Interest: a Victorian silver open face key wind fusee pocket watch, 50mm, with power reserve indicator, London 1887, the case stamped 'RG' probably for Robert Gravenor, the movement numbered '136769', the inner case back inscribed 'Sub-lieut Arthur Henry Rostron, R.N.R 1893'; together with Royal Navy Certificate of Service for 110575 Charles John Waight; a silver framed photographed of Waight; and other related ephemera.

Arthur Henry Rostron, was the Captain of the RMS Carpathia when she rescued the survivors of the RMS Titanic after the ship sank in 1912.

Provenance: by repute this watch was won in a bet by Charles John Waight, thence by direct descent.

Stride & Son Auctioneers and Valuers of Chichester, West Sussex are pleased to announce that they will be offering ‘The Dame Patricia Routledge Collection’ in their three-day auction on 29th, 30th & 31st July. Dame Patricia, one of our best loved actresses, passed away last October at the age of 96. To people of a certain age, she will perhaps be forever known for her portrayal of Hyacinth Bucket, the snobbish middle-class social climber, in the 1990s BBC comedy series ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. However, she was also a talented singer and in 1968 won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, followed by an Olivier Award in 1988.⁣⁣⠀

The auction includes a wide variety of items: from books, inscribed personally by the likes of Alan Bennett; a musical score, inscribed by Leonard Bernstein; signed photographs; scripts; press cuttings; and playbills; as well as many more personally significant items, such as jewellery, clothing and other personal effects.⁣⁣⠀

Stride & Son are anticipating a lot of international interest, a spokesperson for the auction house says “In addition to being a national treasure, she was also tremendously popular and well respected overseas, she was still regularly receiving fan mail from all over the world”, ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ was sold to over 45 countries and unexpectedly become a massive cult classic in Scandinavia, so it looks as though her legacy will continue for years to come.⁣⁣⠀
