Fantastic to see the rapid growth of Kilted Dragon Distillery over the past 12 months. It’s been a pleasure having you as tenants and thank you for starting your journey with us 💙

🍸 A Cwmbran distillery is celebrating a landmark year of growth after moving from a laboratory space at the Springboard Business Innovation Centre in Llantarnam to its own dedicated production unit and visitor venue- just two miles away.

Kilted Dragon Distillery's owners, Jamie and Marie Boycott, have spent the past year developing a range of distinctive spirits.

Their success has now enabled the business to expand into new premises in Cwmbran, where production, bottling, tours, tastings and hands‑on spirit‑making sessions will run side by side.

Jamie Boycott said: “The support from Springboard has been invaluable. Not only did it provide the ideal space but also the network and guidance we needed to accelerate our plans. Marie and I are excited to continue developing the business, crafting exceptional spirits, and welcoming visitors for tours and tastings at our new location.”

The business began operating from Torfaen Council's Springboard, in May last year, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The space allowed Jamie to focus on recipe development and innovation, while Marie strengthened the company’s strategy, operations and long‑term growth plans.

Together, they have created a growing product line that includes a Welsh pink gin with a Scottish twist and a spiced rum infused with Welshcake and Scottish Tablet.

Cllr Jo Gauden, Torfaen Council's executive member for economy & places, said: “Kilted Dragon has thrived since joining Springboard. Their growth reflects the strength of Torfaen’s business support ecosystem, and we wish Jamie, Marie, and the team continued success.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Springboard’s 20th anniversary celebration on 4 December. 🎉

The morning brought together past and present residents, local partners and members of Torfaen County Borough Council, including Cllr Joanne Gauden and Dawson Evans, who spoke about the role Springboard plays in the area’s wider economic development.

We also heard from former resident David Harlow ACII of Quote Detective who shared how flexible space and supportive surroundings helped shape their early growth, and from current residents Iestyn Foster of Amotio Health and Stephen Jones of Comparison Creator, who reflected on how the building continues to offer room for new ideas. Their experiences captured what many businesses value here.

A clear message from the speakers was the value of flexible, easy in and out access. This gives businesses the freedom to explore new ideas without the pressure of long commitments or restrictive terms. For many tenants, that flexibility has been the starting point for genuine innovation.

Springboard’s mix of office and laboratory space, onsite business support, free parking and modern facilities continues to create an environment where teams can focus on progress. Its location near the M4, combined with strong hospitality, leisure and retail options, makes it a practical and appealing base for both local companies and international businesses entering the UK market.

The anniversary event reminded us how much has been achieved over the past two decades, and how many opportunities lie ahead for the Springboard community.

As we celebrate Springboard’s 20th anniversary this week, we’ve been looking back at where it all began.

These photos show the early construction of the building in 2005, followed by the official opening on 8th December 2005 by inventor Trevor Baylis CBE.

What started as an empty shell soon became a place designed for ideas, teamwork and new businesses finding their feet.

Since that day, hundreds of companies have used Springboard as a base to grow, develop innovative products and services, and build lasting networks.

It’s a reminder of how far the centre has come, and of the people who helped shape it from day one.
