A while back, I refurbished a table for a client. The extension part of the table was damaged and unwanted. So, I had it for material stock. Now, I'm going to use that material for a new project. The box will be a theme box and it will house ashes of a loved one. The theme element will be a 'Flatbed' truck. This is the beginning of that project.

Every single piece of wood on this project has come from recycled materials but mainly from a storage unit that was no longer wanted. The previous project also came from the same piece of furniture.

Gluing and preparation for the internal cabinet sides and shelf. Good working by the boss. I have a system of lining up and setting out the position for the dowels. It worked out quite nicely on this job. Shelf and legs tomorrow.

The first picture shows the back of the unit now, before it's covering material. It was, in the past, the underside. The 2nd picture shows the unit seen from the front elevation, when, in its past, it was the top entrance to a storage box. The other pictures show the painting and varnish finishes being applied.

The storage unit is the item I'm using as my donar piece of furniture. I'm creating 2 pieces of furniture out and 1 piece of furniture. The coffee table was the first piece and this will be the second. I'm making a cabinet that will stand on legs and have 2 doors. The pictures show the first element in work, the cabinet top made from pinewood I have in recycled stock.

The coffee table is complete now. It's the first of 2 pieces of furniture to be created from 1 piece of furniture. I've described where all the different elements of the creation came from and it culminates in what you see now. Now I'm starting the next development and creation.

I'm a recycler, up-cycler, furniture repairer, furniture restorer, woodworker, furniture designer and maker. I search for opportunities to use old bits of furniture to create new furniture. This table was created from a lid of a storage box, using material from a garage door frame and a couple of table legs from an old oak table that I needed to modify to get the shape I wanted. With plenty of support from the missus, sanding the oak legs, enough progress was made today to be able to complete the piece tomorrow.
