There is nothing quite like seeing a plan come together on paper. Here is our wonderful Janice doing what she does best—bridging the gap between clinical reality and business success.

With over 35 years in dentistry, Janice isn't just a consultant; she’s been in your shoes. As a qualified Dental Therapist and former practice owner. Janice has seen the challenges and knows exactly where the opportunities lie.

Working as a vital part of The Jayne Sproson Consultancy, Janice goes far beyond standard advice. She is a powerhouse within our signature Discover–Develop–Deliver (DDD) programme, guiding practices through:

Discover: Identifying the unique DNA of your practice.

Develop: Mapping out the strategy.

Deliver: Bringing that vision to life with confidence. This is Janice’s unique ability. A seasoned trainer in change management, Janice understands teams. She provides calm in the chaos. She knows conversions.

Is your practice ready for its next chapter? Let’s map it out together.

Principals often ask me if we can just run training at the practice.

I understand why. It feels easier and more practical. But if you are being honest, it rarely gives you the result you actually want.

If you are asking your team to level up, you first have to define what that looks like. Then, you have to show them that you mean it.

Last week, one of our client's took their entire team to Fawsley Hall Hotel & Spa ahead of their conversion. They got away from the phones and the constant interruptions, giving themselves the time and space to get clear on exactly what comes next.

They have now sent their letters to patients.

I wish them well, of course, but this isn't about luck. You get one shot at conversion. This team is prepared, they are aligned, and they understand what is expected of them.

The venue plays a part in that. It shows the team that this matters and isn't just another meeting squeezed into a busy day. If you try to do this in the middle of everything else, it never quite lands.

If you are going to do it, do it properly.

If you want help getting your team ready for change, send a DM.

: Will your associates stay?

Principals often fear that moving away from the NHS will drive their associates away. The reality? Many associates are actually the ones looking for the exit. They want to escape the stress and move into private practice where they can actually enjoy dentistry again. The key to keeping them on board is having your ducks in a row before you have the conversation.

Our Discovery Day provides the financial modelling and data you need to show your team that they will be busy, secure, and far less stressed. When the numbers work, it is a win for the Principal, the associate, and the patient.

If you need help managing this change with your team, please send a DM for a confidential discussion.

Walking away from an NHS contract is a significant professional pivot. It should never be a reactive decision or a leap of faith. It requires a clinical, structured roadmap.

The Jayne Sproson Method provides a safe and steady partnership for Principals ready to transition on their own terms. We focus on the three pillars that matter most: protecting your income, supporting your team, and upholding your professional reputation.

Our process begins with a Discovery Day, a standalone strategic session designed to provide total clarity.

Vision Alignment: A deep dive to ensure your business objectives match your long-term personal aspirations.

Financial Modelling: Data-driven projections to ensure you can safely replace and surpass your NHS income.

A Personalised Blueprint: A comprehensive evaluation of your options, providing the confidence to move forward with precision.

This day is available as a standalone service. It provides you with a professional roadmap and a clear path to freedom, with no further obligation to work with us.

If you are ready to explore your options strategically, please send a DM to discuss your Discovery Day.

This week, from the office… with two dogs (Betty & Bo our office mascots), who are very much in charge. I am just here to keep up.

We have a proper mix going on this week

Three Strategy Days in play.
Thank you to those trusting us with this. We spend days pulling the data apart, sense-checking it, and building financial options so you can see what is actually possible. No obligation to continue afterwards… although most do.

Preparing for an associate mentoring call.
Kudos to this one. Not just investing in hands-on courses, but really getting to grips with their personal brand.

Keeping a squat in London on track.
Cashflow has to start before the doors open. There are a lot of moving parts and a lot of opportunities to drop the baton. Structure and accountability keep things moving… and keep everyone sane.

Prepping for 26 delegates at a full team training for a progressive conversion.
Not ready, or not able, to let go of NHS just yet. So we work with that. The 100 Challenge builds momentum now, so when the time comes, they are ready.

Interviewing for a PCC role, with the Practice Manager involved.
A role they have never had before. This is not recruitment as usual. I have been embedding this way of working for 24 years, so it is about getting it right from the start and growing the PM at the same time.

Preparing a handover to a BDM as a client comes to the end of their 18-month programme. A proud moment. We will miss them, but I know we will always stay in touch. They move from client contacts… to friend contacts.

Post-conversion brand review this week.
It may be called a review, but we have already clocked over 50 hours… from brand strategy workshop through to working with our partners at MoxieWorks.
We are now at visual identity stage.
Excited… and yes, slightly nervous about their reaction.

One client started their conversion on Monday, with Janice Charlton onsite supporting. Over 200 members joined on day one. Now it is about holding that momentum and supporting the team through it properly.

And then…
A day off for granny duties.

Because building the business matters.
But so does making the memories.

Decisions about the future of your practice should be based on real numbers, not hearsay or what you’ve heard in a WhatsApp group.

In a landscape often driven by fear and opinions, anything that brings together real experiences and actual outcomes has immense value. Whether you are currently in the middle of a transition, considering one, or have already moved across, having access to honest data is the only way to know if you are on the right track.

I will be watching this closely and encourage you to read the shared post below. The more honest the input, the more useful the output will be for the entire profession.

This photo represents a conscious decision to pause after a particularly intensive few weeks of consultancy.

When you are dedicated to the professional development of others, the boundary between work and personal time often becomes fluid. While a productive week is energising, sustained high-level performance is only possible when it is balanced with deliberate recovery.

Moving away from the desk or the practice for a change of pace isn't a luxury; it is a professional necessity. Decompressing ensures that when we return to our teams, we do so with the clinical focus and strategic clarity they expect.

In an industry that often celebrates being "constantly on," we must remember that a business is better served by a rested leader than a depleted one.

Admittedly, finding this balance is far easier to advise than it is to implement in a busy practice. Since we are all navigating this together, I would value your input: What are your practical tips for ensuring you actually step away and recharge?

One of our clients recently shared a thought that stayed with me. They observed that the pressure from some plan providers to prioritise patient volume often comes at the expense of finding the right fit for the practice.

The value of independent consultancy lies in having someone who has your back—someone whose primary interest is ensuring your business thrives on your own terms.

By integrating the membership plan into the core strategy of the practice, it becomes a tool for professional excellence rather than just a financial task.

Does your current growth strategy feel like a race for numbers, or a move toward better alignment?

You see it all the time. “Implants for new patients only.”

And in that one line, you have just told your loyal patients exactly where they sit.
Second.

Now layer that into a newly converted practice. You have asked patients to make a decision. Some stepped forward into membership. Some did not. And then what happens?

The focus shifts. Meta ads go live. New patient offers appear. The energy moves outward and the very people who already know you…who have sat in your chair…
who nearly said yes…are left watching from the side. Second. Again.

This is where most practices leak value without realising it. Because the growth you are chasing is not out there first It is already inside your patient base. The ones who did not join are not lost. They are unresolved. They do not need another advert
They need another conversation.

Handled properly, your cost per acquisition drops. Your diaries fill with the right work. Your referrals start to build without forcing them. But this does not happen by chance. It happens when someone in your business owns that conversation, properly. Not reception. Not “whoever picks up the phone”. A trained Patient Care Coordinator who understands the commercial impact of every interaction. Because this is not about being nice, it is about being effective.

If you want to build a system that converts the patients you already have, not just chase new ones, ask me about the Patient Care Coordinator Immersion Academy.
It is not a nice day out. It is designed to change behaviour, improve conversion and drive revenue.

Kim Martin recently reflected on the evolution of Practice Managers during their consultancy sessions, noting a distinct shift in professional demeanor:

"Over time, I’ve seen many PMs evolve while working with Jayne. Watching managers develop in their own unique ways is remarkable. Jayne focuses on a person's perceived professional challenges, coaching them toward a more self-assured approach. The change is visible: they often move from appearing overwhelmed by their workload to demonstrating greater conviction and taking a more proactive role in business development. The insights I’ve gained have been instrumental in my own transition into management, and I would encourage others to engage fully with this process."

When professional hurdles are addressed through structured coaching, the impact on a practice is tangible. It moves beyond a simple shift in morale; it manifests as a change in how a manager carries themselves and their ability to implement strategic growth.

If your management team is currently struggling with the weight of their daily responsibilities, it may be time to reassess their professional support system. Effective leadership is often built on having the right framework to approach challenges with clarity and confidence.
