Right, I've gone and written a book. Well, a guide.

It's called The Small Business Google Visibility Toolkit, which I'll admit isn't the most thrilling title you'll read this year, but stick with me.....

If you run a local business and the enquiries have gone a bit quiet, your Google Business Profile is the first place to look. It's free, it's powerful, and most people set it up once and never touch it again.

I can help you optimise your Google Business profile, but if you would rather do it yourself, I have written a step-by-step guide to help you do just that.

It's Β£14.99, and it's here whenever you fancy a read: https://exaltis.uk/product/the-small-business-google-visibility-toolkit/

Have a look, and if you'd rather not be spending your evenings fiddling about with Google to get more sales, you know where I am. 😊

Your Google Business Profile should be a huge FREE marketing asset for you that brings in customers, but I speak to so many small business owners who just let theirs stagnate.

When was the last time you looked at your profile? Do you know if it's working? πŸ€”

A simple test you can do right now is to open up your Google Business Profile and look at the number of interactions you have (the calls, website clicks, and directions Google logs for you). Is it a decent number?

If it's really low, your Google Business profile needs some attention (and you can fix it yourself if you have the time).

Here are the most common mistakes and how you can fix them:

Give your profile ten minutes this week. I'd bet you find at least two things worth sorting.

We've been nominated for not one but TWO My Local Awards here in the North East: Web Design Business of the Year, and Business Consultancy of the Year! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

The best bit? These awards are decided entirely by public vote. No judging panels, no pay-to-win, just real people backing the local businesses they rate. So if we're going to win, it'll be because of you.

If we've helped your business and you think we're worth a vote, we'd be so grateful. And if not, no hard feelings at all. Honesty always wins with us.

Voting closes on 8 June and takes about a minute (you just confirm with a quick code to your email to keep it fair). You can vote here:

It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and today I'm writing about something a lot of small business owners feel but rarely say out loud β€” how lonely working for yourself can be.

Everyone thinks you're "lucky" to work from home. What they don't see is the hours, the stress, the weeks where you don't really speak to another adult, and the decisions you've been turning over for ages because nobody around you fully understands the business.

It's not good for your head, and it's not good for the business either.

On the blog this week, I've written about what genuinely helps, why the people you surround yourself with matter more than we admit, and why I built The Founders' Room.

If you've ever felt any of this, you are absolutely not on your own. πŸ’›

Be kind to yourselves this week.

We have exciting news this month: after eight years on Scotswood Road, Exaltis has officially moved into the Northern Design Centre in Gateshead. This move is just the first step in a much bigger plan for the year ahead.

Here's what's changed, what hasn't, and what it means if you're a client, or a small business owner anywhere in Newcastle, Gateshead, or the wider North East:

When someone Googles what you do in your town, does your business actually show up?

If you're not sure, you're not alone. Most local businesses have no idea where they really stand on Google… or what's quietly sending customers to their competitors instead.

Grab a cuppa and take five minutes to answer a few simple questions about your business. You'll get a personalised on-screen report with honest feedback showing you exactly where you stand on Google right now, what you're already nailing, and the easy wins you're missing.

Empty shop? Waiting for customers who aren't coming? 😭

If this feels familiar, it's almost never about your business β€” it's about whether local people can actually find you when they search on Google.

Most independents have a Google Business Profile that's quietly working against them. Wrong category, half-finished services list, generic description, hasn't been touched in months. None of it looks broken. All of it costs customers.

Even worse...Google's new AI now answers customer questions about your business automatically β€” pulling from whatever's on your profile. If your profile is incomplete, the AI guesses. And it doesn't always guess right.

Want to know exactly where you stand? I've put together a free 5-minute quiz that scores your profile across 5 areas and tells you what to fix first. No call required, no email tricks.

If you'd rather read the longer version first, I also wrote up the 5 most common mistakes I see β€” the link is in the comments alongside the quiz. ❀️

One of the best things about my job is seeing my lovely customers. I've built websites for all sorts of businesses β€” florists, engineers, Pilates studios, holiday retreats, personal branding consultants, copywriters, funeral celebrants β€” the list is long and varied, but they all have one thing in common: they're all small North East businesses working hard to make a living.

One of my latest projects was for Leazes Bark. Stu has an incredible backstory (and has been in the Chronicle a few times lately). He absolutely loves dogs and Newcastle United, so he did the only sensible thing β€” combined the two and created the North East's only Newcastle United-themed pet store!

As you can see, he has a shop full of brilliant products. But until recently, he had no website. I designed, built, and launched it for him a month ago, and the orders are already flooding in.

If you have a dog, get yourself down to the shop, or take a look at the site and buy online (link below). Make sure you follow his socials too....they brighten my day!

And of course, if you need a website β€” or know someone who does β€” give me a shout. I'd love to meet you for a coffee and see how I can help. ❀️
