Residents across the High Peak are set to receive new food waste recycling starter packs ahead of the launch of a weekly collection service in September.
High Peak Borough Council will begin delivering the packs from Monday 27th July, with the rollout expected to take around six weeks.
Each household will receive a small silver counter-top kitchen caddy, a larger green outdoor caddy and a roll of introductory compostable liners to get them started.
The new weekly food waste collection service will begin on Monday 14th September.
Residents are being reminded to continue using their existing green-lidded bin for food waste until the new service starts.
Deliveries of the starter packs will take place in phases:
Phase 1: Glossop, Tintwistle, Hadfield, Padfield, Gamesley, Simmondley
Phase 2: Hayfield, Castleton, Edale, Hope Valley, Bamford
Phase 3: New Mills, Furness Vale, Chapel-en-le-Frith
Phase 4: Whaley Bridge
Phase 5: Central Buxton, Burbage, Fairfield, Harpur Hill, Sterndale Moor
The new service will allow residents to recycle a wide range of food waste. People should remove all food from its packaging before placing it in the caddy. Liquids, drinks and non-food items cannot be placed in the food waste caddies.
The council is reminding residents that only the green outdoor caddies provided by the authority will be emptied. Households should place their caddy in front of their other bins at their usual collection point by 6am on collection day.
Food waste should be collected in the compostable liners provided in the kitchen caddy. Once full, the liner should be tied and transferred to the outdoor caddy.
Residents living in flats will receive access to larger communal food waste bins instead of individual outdoor caddies.
The service is free, and residents can continue to compost suitable food waste at home if they wish.
The council is also reminding residents that any replacement liners must meet the EN13432 standard and display the compostable 'seed' logo.
