Should you rent or buy a burglar alarm?

Choosing a new intruder alarm can feel confusing, especially if you’re unsure whether to rent or buy your new system.
We’ve put together a helpful guide to highlight the main differences between the two options. Read on or scroll through the carousel to find out more:

How you'll pay
Rent - A monthly fee that covers everything; equipment rental, maintenance, system upgrades, and monitoring.
Buy - A one-off price for equipment and installation. Maintenance and monitoring cost extra, between £200 - £400 per year.

Police response to a break-in
Rent - A ‘Type B’ Response. The provider calls 999 and connects to the national switchboard. There is no guaranteed response time.
Buy - A ‘Type A’ Response. The provider calls your local constabulary. Average response time is 8 minutes.

Maintenance & monitoring
Rent - Provided by the company who supply the equipment making this one less thing to think about.
Buy - You choose a provider based on details that matter to you, such as location, reputation and recommendations.

Flexibility
Rent - Signing a long-term contract reduces monthly payments but means you’re tied to their services until your contract expires - even if you move house or are unhappy with them.
Buy - You can switch to another maintenance and monitoring company, just like you would if you wanted to change the garage that services your car.
